Hi, (name removed by moderator).

I disagree. If something passed mystically into my room through the wall, I would not conclude that it was “human.” Are ghosts “human”? I wouldn’t say so.

Even the Holy Spirit assures us at Wisdom 7:5-6 that all kings (including presumably Christ the King) are born alike. And, Luke tells us that Mary was acting in accord with God’s law when she engaged in the sacrifice to cleanse herself of a bloody childbirth. As far as I can see, she breached.

I’m not going to talk about in partu virginity here any more. It’s liable to get the thread yanked. Sorry.

If you’re interested, start another thread.

technically the story of adam and eve was written when the jews were in exile in babel to serve as a teaching for there children who were forced to learn babels creation story. The story’s are quite similiar showing that it is not really but we can still get alot of symbolism out of it. We don’t know how God created the earth or how we came to be and that’s where faith truly comes in

Hi. I don’t know what you have in mind, but Mary is called “Mary Ever Virgin” because she was a virgin at all moments,
Good grief.
Do you men need me to explain to you what virginity means in relationship to a girl’s physiology and more importantly what it does not mean?

Mary was ever pure and Ever Virgin. In respect of Our Lady’s modesty, I will not discuss it here. I also suggest you drop the subject or save it until you are out behind the shed trying to figure out how to smoke.

Otherwise, you can PM me and I will clue you in… and double :eek:

Jesus’ divinity doesn’t imply human minus something but human plus divine. The implication that God cannot be fuly human implies that human nature is outside of God. Like Eve is not outside of Adam. To reintroduce the subject here.

Well, the traditional Catholic analysis has God punishing about 100 billion people for the sin of two, because He is a sovereign. And, it has God making those 100 billion sin-prone, as a “punishment.”

Which explanation is gloomier?
It seems that the “traditional Catholic analysis” originated from St. Paul, or whoever is the author of Hebrews.

Your analysis is… well, original! 👍

Thank you.

Since I don’t want to go off topic, I will PM you regarding the two Latin meanings of virgo intacta.

As an outsider (non-Catholic) I have read the contributions about Adam and Eve with great interest. If all human beings were literally descended from Adam and Eve, surely this would produce inbreeding of a disastrous kind. I am not a scientist, but I understand that genetics and biology both show that what would amount to incest has dreadful physical results which I do not need to describe. I get the impression that some of your contributors disagree with the idea of a literal descent from only two parents. This seems to be inconsistent with the papal pronouncement.
I was told that Adam means"man" and that the story is an allegory. The ancient writers did not have enough abstract words to express their ideas except by telling stories that contained a greater truth. Does anyone else share this opinion?
My apology for the lack of integrity displayed in some posts regarding Adam and Eve. People are free to trash whatever and whenever. Regardless, the Catholic Church maintains her integrity of faith–sometimes in spite of the members. Yet, no matter how humans use the gift of free will in or out of the Eden Garden, God lovingly calls us back to His side just as He promised Adam and Eve.

I agree with your opinion that we need to listen to the greater truths regardless of how they are expressed. We also need to clear away the misunderstanding of original sin so that our beautiful human nature can serve God with integrity. Regarding the speculation of early incest, it is possible that the birth rate in the first generations would outdistance the development of that particular disease of heredity. One has to consider that humans have a unique lineage to begin with.

You are right in your impression that there are contributors who disagree with the idea of two sole parents of the human race. That is inconsistent with the integrity of the encyclical Humani Generis of Pius XII, 1950. However, it is consistent for people to argue until the cows come home. As far as scripture debates as to which is allegory and which is historical, I rely on the Catholic Catechism which teaches that the existence of Adam and Eve is part of the integrity of the Catholic Faith. Note: the traditional Catholic analysis of original sin originates in Genesis which is why people want to get rid of Adam and Eve.

Divine Revelation trumps.
