Even before implantation, embryos are human, says Vatican official

VATICAN CITY (CNS) – While some scientists, legislators and even some parents see the human embryo as material that can be studied, frozen or destroyed, for the Catholic Church an embryo is human and has “a special relationship with God,” said Bishop Elio Sgreccia.

The bishop, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, said that before allowing scientists to study the possibilities for manipulating human embryos, wider society should be asking itself when does life begin and when does life begin to have value. **

I think that this will clarify to Church’s position on embryo adoption.

love this man…how can anyone argue with what the church position is…it just makes sense…Logic should be easy…Life begins when sperm meets egg…not oh it begins here but not here or only when it has these certain qualifcations…who gets to make those decisions on when life begins…a judge…a doctor…how about letting GOD do what he does best…he has been doing it all on his own for awhile and he seems to be pretty good about it…remember its a life not a fast food order…

Unfortunately, this will make little or no dent in those who favor abortion because they too have come to the point of admitting that the fertilized egg is human life. What they will not concede is that that human life is on par with a newborn baby or an adult.

They think that since the embryo has no sense of self and probably no feelings it doesn’t matter if we use them or not. They cannot/will not see that that way of thinking is the slippery slope that leads to all sorts of judgment calls regarding whose quality of life is worth preserving and whose isn’t and what standard of life denotes a person worth saving.

Satan has caught up with the Church on this issue and has given the pro-death proponents a new set of pat answers that satisfy their own selfishness. We need to redouble our prayers and our voices in the fight for the basic rights of all persons, wanted or unwanted, able or disabled, newly conceived or elderly, don’t we?
