Ever Been a Drug Addict?

As an alcoholic, I can honestly say that unless you’ve been addicted to drugs or alcohol, there no way you can understand what its like.
 
HBO had a good series on addiction. See here for a link.

I’ve also had friends recommend the book A Million Little Pieces by James Frey.

James Frey has came out and admitted that most of A Million Little Pieces a complete lie.
 
I tend to use the less damaging methods than using drugs and alcohol although I’m a bit surprised I haven’t been driven to it yet… probably best to avoid alcoholism though despite reading and talking to others about it it’s still hard for me to think that it is so bad…
For the last, over 12 hours, I have alternately been surfing this forum and the magic the gathering forums. This is my alternative. Admittedly been stopping to eat etc. every now and then. I don’t have the motivation to actually do something constructive (my uni work).

The problem is the physical aspect of alcoholism. CRAVING. This does not happen to the majority of drinkers, not even to heavy drinkers.

Once the craving becomes a part of your life, your mind comes up with reasons to drink. And more reasons. Life quality goes downhill. Then your spiritual life goes downhill in response to your mental life, all to satisfy that craving for more alcohol.

For those who may be wondering if they have a problem with alcohol, I would like to remind you that you can attend “Open” meetings of AA. You cannot speak and share at these meetings, but you are invited to listen in.

In fact, if it is a discussion meeting, and a topic is asked for, you might suggest :HHow do I know that I am an alcoholic?"

I have found that words are needed far more often than one would think… Or is that just my opinion… because i am a “girl” 😃 (more verbal)… hmmm… something to think about…

I have been in many situations where i felt tha something HAD to be said… At AA mtgs… i hear some sad stories and sometimes the poeple there seem kind of lost… which anyone is without Jesus… so i try to share Jesus so they will realize He loves them… and is always there… 🙂

It’s a memoir (a book he wrote about his life, but not exactly the same thing as an autobiography), detailing his struggles with alcohol and drugs I guess, and it later turned out to be fake. Before admitting it was fake though, he appeared on Oprah’s show and got massive endorsement from her, she made him out to be a model of inspiration. Apparently she nearly exploded when she found out she’d been conned.
