We know Peter was a convert from judaism as our first pope. Ever been a pope who was a convert to Catholicism from Orthodox church or protestant Church? If so who and when?
Not to be nitpicky, but I don’t think we can call the Apostles “converts”; they did not join a new religion but continued to practice the one revealed religion. Judaism only became a separate religion for those who rejected the Messiah. We know Peter was a convert from judaism as our first pope.
Technically we’re the separate religion. Judaism was a well-established religion, then we became a sect, then we developed into our own religion. Not to be nitpicky, but I don’t think we can call the Apostles “converts”; they did not join a new religion but continued to practice the one revealed religion. I see what you mean. Theology vs. sociology. Both have their place.Technically we’re the separate religion. Judaism was a well-established religion, then we became a sect, then we developed into our own religion.
I didn’t meant to imply he was.Eastern doesn’t mean Orthodox.
I’m sure plenty of the early Popes were converts - perhaps from Judaism, perhaps from various pagan religions.
All the Reformation and post-Reformation Popes were Italian up until Blessed JP2, so chances are slim to zip that any of them were not born and bred Catholics.
Yes thanks, I should have clarified…I do understand the Eastern rite of the Church under the pope…but I meant eastern orthodox converts and protestant converts…but yes u answered my question to the protestant question. Thanks.Eastern doesn’t mean Orthodox.

I think that there have been several Greek Popes. But at the time the Orthodox church and the Roman Church were in communion. We know Peter was a convert from judaism as our first pope. Ever been a pope who was a convert to Catholicism from Orthodox church or protestant Church? If so who and when?
Please forgive this off topic note.Technically we’re the separate religion. Judaism was a well-established religion, then we became a sect, then we developed into our own religion.
