Ever Been to A Polka Mass?

I’ve also noticed that it’s the same melody as AMERICAN TUNE by Paul Simon. All along I wondered why he ripped off a Lenten hymn, but here it turns out he just used an old German melody. Interesting… learn something new every day.

Sure Joy is permitted…But not in the house of God where we are there to worship our God, Jesus and prepare ourselves for the unbloddy sacrifice he will be soon be making for us up on that altar (you know, that table looking thing where the candles and all used to reside?).

There is plenty of time afterwards for you and the Pope to do your Polka, disco, heavy metal, guitar, flute , rap music or whatever. Understand My Post Vatican II friends, that there are still some people that actually- Now hold your breath - when they go to mass like to actually not hear all of that noise and we dont need to be entertained-(Can you believe that!!! and we dont feel that need to actually PARTICIPATE FALSLY-BECAUSE WE ARE PARTICIPATING IN A REVERENT WAY) and are there to worship and reflect on our past week and how we can become better Catholics and that good old foot stompin Polka music just kinda ruins the spirit…so maybe after mass you can go hit your nearest Lawrence Welk -Pope JPII Polka Bar and do your Polka dancin there

So joy and reverence are incompatible? Ain’t that a bummer! No wonder less than 40 percent of nominal Catholics bother to attend Mass on Sunday. I can’t help but recall Jesus’s words, “Man was not made for the sabbath, but the sabbath for man.” Another illusion up in smoke! Oh well. Life goes on.

maybe you should look at those Vatican II documents some more and look for an answer-All I know is that when I have attended any TLM -Indult, schismatic or whatever-Packed to the gills-and REVERENCE breeds reverence and breeds PRIESTS-Not LAWRENCE WELKS

I think that reverential joy as well as reverential penitence should be a part of everyone’s attitude at any Mass–just my :twocents:

Father Perkovich is a great priest,(I am from northern minnesota home to the great Polka Mass by Fr. Perk!!!) and not all believe church shouldn’t be joyful and full of music see for instance… Psalm 150
1: Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary;praise Him in his mighty firmament.
2;Praise him for his mighty deeds,praise him according to His exceeding greatness!
3;Praise him with trumpet sound;praise him with lute and harp
4;Praise him with timbrel and dance;praise him with strings and pipe
5;Praise him with sounding cymbals;praise him with loud clashing cymbals
6;Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!;Praise the Lord!

maybe 2 Samuel 6:5…And David and all the house of Israel were making merry before the Lord with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tamborines and castanets and cymbals
