Just curious to hear others’ experiences with this.

Some years ago, a friend of mine visited Spain and ‘heard’ a voice telling her to buy me a statue of St. Rita. She had no idea who St. Rita was, but complied. I wasn’t too surprised by that, as St. Rita is the patroness of marriage, and I could use her prayers. 😉

But a few months ago, as I was praying, the name of St. Rose of Lima popped very strongly into my head. I feel very strongly that she (or someone) was letting me know I need to ask for her prayers, too. I know of her, but very little. I prayed to her for a bit, and forgot her for months, till just a few nights ago, the same thing happened.

I looked up St. Rose again tonight, and I am at a loss as to why her. There are so many saints I can understand why they and I might have connections for various reasons. But for St. Rose, I can’t see any reason. I will pray to her anyway, and be grateful for her intercession, but I am curious.

wow, you have two very powerful, holy women of God praying for you!!!

At a retreat early this calendar year, we picked saint names out of a hat. The francisican leading the retreat told us that this saint was picking us as a intercessor. I picked St. Agnes.

Keep praying for me, St. Agnes!

Hi,
After learning that St. Faustina was the secretary of divine mercy in the heavenly court, I feel she was involved in my past and present. St. Paul first gave me hope. My name is Timothy, so I looked at him as a teacher. I took it very personal when I read his writings. St. Micheal, he’s very special to me and my 9 y.o. son. Tim

I am an older Catholic catechumen. Generally interfaith and universalist most of my life, as I began movement toward the Church, I was meditating one morning an heard a very small voice in me say “I am Claire.” I did not understand why, except for a general attraction to St Francis. And that guess even came after having to look her up. Not one to ignore a hint, I added a litany to St Claire to my other morning practices. To this day, I really don’t understand the nature of this relationship, or why it occurred, but it has become important to me, in that if I am busy and shorten my practices to contemplation and rosary, I miss the Litany to Claire in a specific way. I told my wife, but have never said it to anyone else. Just writing this is giving me a little emotional flood, and the whole matter is still mysterious.

I hope so! Your words fill me with encouragement! I think very few people outside of the Catholic faith (and even few Catholics) know about St. Rita or St. Rose (actually, DUH, a funny coincidence just occured to me: those are two of my three sisters’ names, although the one goes by RosIE, not Rose!) Anyway, I probably mistakenly confused not widely known to the whole world with not powerful. I am curious on what specifically you base that statement. The sorts of miracles associated with them, maybe? I couldn’t find any specifics about St. Rose.

What I did find was that she is the patroness of those ridiculed for their piety, and while I strive for piety, but feel I’d be overstating my success to claim it, one of the really hurtful things DH did was to ridicule me for being ‘too damn Catholic.’ Maybe this is the connection or one reason?

Sometime last year, I can’t remember when exactly, I was in a spiritual funk and the name St. Teresa of Avila kept popping up everywhere. Sometimes it would be just the name Teresa other times it was her picture. Finally, I submitted.

I started by reading her work “The Interior Castle” which took about a year to work through, and now I am in the “Way of Perfection”, which, actually should have been read first but anyway, I have to say that I found someone who is more or less my equal in terms of temperment, irreverant humor and thought, at times I feel I have found a soul mate that is pretty much 500+ years old.

Actually it’s a somewhat funny story how I first learned of St. Therese. I played field hockey for all four years of high school, and my senior year we played several schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Well, that was also the year that the teachers went on strike because of low salaries. So because of that several of our games ended up being cancelled or rescheduled. One of the schools we were supposed to play was called Little Flower High School, and I decided to try to get to their website to find out if their teachers were on strike as well. I typed in littleflower.org thinking it would take me to the high school, and instead it lead me to a website about St. Therese of Lisieux. I read about her life and immediately felt a connection to her. This was before I ever thought about becoming Catholic, and I decided that if I would ever convert, I would choose Theresa as my Confirmation name. I definitely believe that she invited herself into my life.

For some reason, I got very excited about St. Athanasius’s feast day one year, even though I knew hardly anything about him. I don’t know if it’s because I liked the sound of his name or what, but I developed a deep affection for him that only grew the more I learned about him. I’d like to think that my excitement about a saint who at the time was relatively unknown to me was a sign that he had already begun to pray for me.

St. Benedict popped up on several medals, rosaries, and sites when I was first coming into The Church, both for me and my Grandma (who was my Sponsor) so when an issue comes up in our Family now, we ask for his intercession. He seemed to like us, so we think of him as Patron of our Family. (Plus, he’s Patron of Kidney Disease, and polycistic kidney disease runs in our family)

Lately St. Michael’s been following me around on Holy Cards, his prayer on slips of paper, medals, etc. I think I know why he’s trying to get my attention, I just haven’t dealt with the situation yet…😊 . He’s probably losing patience…:o

I should buy a St. Michael medal, and wear it with my St. Benedict medal. Talk about protection eh?

I have a Benedictin crucifix and a St. Micheal medal I wear, as well as a MM. I really like the crucifix. Just an idea. Tim
