This morning I was flipping through the channels and came across The Church of God Int’l based out of Tyler, TX televised on the Word Network. The topic was about knowing your Bible and what it truly teaches. I’ll make it short, the man hosting the show was basically saying there is no purgatory, no immortal soul, Hell, etc, etc, etc. The man quotes John 3:13 stating no one has gone to Heaven:

No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.

In othe words, another sect following the bogus practice: The Bible-only.

If I’m not mistaken, this group is binitarian. Did he say anything to indicate their views on the nature of God?

A Baptist girl I was encountering in a group setting wants to “save” her Catholic friend. Putting me in an awkward place, since we Orthodox believe in confession and pray to saints–her two stated grievances. All because of that error best described as “I’m de facto infallible when I interpret the Bible”. Please pray for them.

These guys are a dime a dozen. And there are people who follow each of them. Truly amazing.

Television evangelist Garner Ted Armstrong formed it after the schism with his dad’s church, the Worldwide Church of God, formed by Herbert W. Armstrong. I don’t think they believe in the Trinity.

They do not believe a lot of things: Christmas, Sunday worship, etc. And why? Not in the Bible.

No they don’t believe in the Holy Trinity, but to me that is the least of their problems. They are similar to SDAs and Jehovah witnesses in other ways. The TV show used to be called The World Tommorow and they had a publication called The Plain Truth.

My step dad’s mom used to get the magazine and I was always shocked to read it full of the usual fundamental mistruths about Christmas and Easter being “pagan” celebrations.

They are an early version of Messianic “Judaism” they celebrate only the Jewish holidays eschewing any Christian celebrations. They come from long distances to observe Yom Kippur camping out.

Actually they were a Group of (TOP) “The Old Path” hosted by Bro. Eli Soriano.

Actually they have evidence that Pope Benidict XVI proclaim that there is no LIMBO/PORGATORY…!!

Edit : And they were also proclaiming that the true religion is what speaks or written in the Bible which is the " Church of God"

Limbo…yes, because it was never taught as a doctrine. Purgatory…I doubt their so-called evidence is even legit.

And they were also proclaiming

Pure conjecture. No different than Jehovah Witnesses who claim they go back to the OT because the term witnesses is used.

Are you personally a member of the “church of Armstrong”?

If this cult is the real “church of God” it must mean that God had no church prior to the 20th century.

Any ecclesial organization can take a name for and give themselves a name. Unfortunately it does not give them the identity they claim for themselves.

Make up your mind. Are you Christian or Jewish, you can’t be both at the same time.

I ask SDA’s the same thing all the time.

How do they respond?
That they are Christians and adhere to theCommandments and the CC violated the Ten Commandments by switching the Sabbath to Sunday, blah, blah, yap, yap. :whacky:

Really I ask? How can you be Sabbath holders and accept Jesus who FULFILLED the OT? Cannot be either or or…but ONLY one or the other.

Hmm, have you raised New Testament passages like Mark 7:14-23 and Acts 10:9-16 to them?

They all practice bad Bible exegesis…you’ll never reach them. 🤷
