“How It Ends” by Devotchka?
I think this song has pretty obvious religious themes, which can be either very good or very bad depending on interpretation.
Mine is this: Someone with an uncertain religious background is about to sacrifice himself for the good of a people, some of which have already died and some who have hurt him. He contemplates the afterlife, has initial doubts and an encounter with God. He then goes off to face his sacrificial death with hope and confidence, knowing that he will die, yet knowing that there is an afterlife.
the alternative interpretation seems to be somewhat of a mockery of Christianity.
You can listen to it here. Personally, I think the music is beautiful especially the piano/violin bits…l just hope my interpretation is somewhat correct
