Ever used a Catholic dating site?

Hmmmm, I am sensing from the general discussion that Ave Maria is the way to go. I’m divorced (gosh, for over ten years now) and the annulment is getting finalized this month… have not dated and I dread the thought of diving into that pool again (and yet, I’m tired of living alone, go figure).

I met my husband on Catholic Match. He was only willing to travel 50 miles to meet someone, and I lived 49 miles from him at the time I had decided to give up my account at the end of the month if I hadn’t met someone. Sometimes, the timing works out perfectly. 👍

Give online dating a try, but keep your eyes open to the people who are around you. You never know when you’ll meet someone wonderful.

Met my hubby on Ave Maria Singles…we lived about 2000 miles apart…so happy we didn’t let distance deter us from corresponding. 👍 We’re gonna celebrate our five year wedding anniversary this summer. 😃

KG

P.S. It took 3 years on AMS for me…God is still teaching me patience. 😛 And DH found me on his last search before he shut down his account. 🙂

I recently started looking at some of these, wondering if they were any good. Have you used one?

Interestingly, I did a freebie preliminary search on one of them and one of the first pictures to pop up was a woman at my parish to whom I’ve been attracted for a while now. A sign? 😃

Yes.

Ave Maria Singles.

It is how I met my husband.
😃 My wife and I met on Ave Maria Singles as well! I see that quite a few folks here have met there or on Catholic Match. Things are looking good for you, OP. 👍

I’ve been on Catholic Match for about 6 months. My problem is that most of the people on the site that are my age (26) have free profiles so they can’t respond to messages, or maybe I’m just that ugly because I’m 3 for 48 on getting people to respond.

I tried one for a while with no luck. It was either Catholic Match or Catholic Singles. Forget which. In my search radius, there just weren’t any female members that met the basic criteria as far as church teaching goes, or I didn’t find them attractive at all, or nothing in their profile sparked my interest.

My wife and I signed up within hours of each other and were in communication within a day. I still paid for a full year because I didn’t expect to hit a hole-in-one. 👍

Hmm… I think when I was on there if a paying member initiated a conversation even a free account holder could reply. Things may have changed.

I did Catholic Singles and Catholic Match. On Catholic Singles I found many incomplete profiles and not a lot of people my age in my area. You could tell that many had signed up just to see what was out there and weren’t coming back. I had more success on Catholic Match. It seemed like more women had actually paid for a subscription and were more willing to initiate a conversation. The one thing that got me, was that even though I had put in my profile that I was only willing to talk to someone that agreed with all 7 major teachings of the Church the site lists in your profile, I still had women contacting me that were 4 or 5 for 7. Overall, it was a good experience and I got to know people I probably would have never talked to otherwise.

Somebody really is a catcher. 😉 👍

I’ve made a good catch too but in a different sense, that is, a friend as it finally turned out (mostly due to her being busy and chased by all sorts of duties until she found a guy not from the portal actually—still, it was and still is very well worth knowing her, very enriching and educational).

The one where I’ve signed up has a forum where women complain about men and men complain about women for not replying to messages. 😛 Judging by the forum, it sounds likely that women indeed do more of the approaching. Since you mention numbers, I’ve done quite a lot of statistical research playing with the search button. 😉 The fad seems to be “undecided”, though people sometimes openly declare an inconsistent view, or they provide no answer whatsoever (which makes you wonder about the reasons for it).

Many a time have I doubted myself over the “undecided” or blank fields and skipping someone as a result. I wasn’t judging a person and yet still I was skipping a girl, there could be no denial of that. But whenever I actually did not skip someone, I tended to feel bad about not sticking with the important values. I’ve eventually worked out a position but there was a lot of thinking.

I have been on Catholic Match (6 months) and AMS ( 18 months but only about 6 with my profile active). I have had plenty of luck with both sites, but no success…

I found it very easy to get someone to “date” me but no luck with finding the right person. I have had my heart broken and also broken a few hearts. My last AMS relationship ended about 3 weeks ago, I think I am done with online dating for good now.

Interestingly, one of my friends is getting married tomorrow afternoon to a man she met on AMS. Praise God for that.

Best of luck in your search.

I’ve been having a nice back and forth with the customer support people at AVS… They gave me a couple of nice discounts 😃

I’m going to go ahead and join up just as soon as I hear back from the Tribunal on my annulment. (its been affirmed at the local Diocese but now its in Frisco for review before the declaration is made)

Could I be really cheeky and ask someone if I could possible use their AVS login just once to see what the pool of people in my country is like. Or take a screenshot to show me.

I’m happy to provide details/collateral/security so you don’t think I’ll run off with it or something haha.

Just intrigued by the whole affair, but not enough to be paying $79!

Thanks

They don’t offer a trial run? ):

For those of you who got into long distance relationships through these sites, how did that work out? How long was it before you made phone calls and visited in person?

I kind of jokingly made a Catholic Match account a while ago, and then gave it up. I figured I’m way too young & have time to find Mrs. CallMeCatholic. 👍

No direct answer but it differs from person to person. Some believe in meeting in person right away, the sooner the better, others want a lot of messaging via the site first.

Apart from other factors, travel costs and times play a role. For example, when I swap a message or two with a lady from my own city or with a convenient connection, I’d normally prefer to meet right away and strictly as new acquaintances (which is not dating). On the other hand, if I had to make some plans, bookings and payments etc., this would need to be taken into consideration. This is probably how many people look at it, except most people have jobs in which they can’t take days off so easily, days off are previous anyway and you need to be well-rested when you get back to work, raising the difficulty bar.

With any relationship, you need to consider the what after. Am I going to marry? If not, will we engage and wait patiently until we can marry? Will I be happy with that or would I rather have the freedom to look around when I become ready to marry? Will I break up with him/her eventually after a couple of months or, say, two years, in order to try something new?

This is different when you already have some form of a relationship (e.g. you love someone mutually, you have a “natural” candidate, you have bonded on a personal level etc.) and when you just meet a reasonably attractive person that appears okay. Or is actually attractive and fun to be around but not much more so than some of the other people. You will meet plenty of attractive or interesting people yet. (Actually, even if you’re already ready to marry, you shouldn’t be marrying someone who’s merely “okay” or merely attractive, even very attractive, but no special connection or indications of being a good spouse and parent material.)
