Ever witness an Exorcism? I imagine they happen more in 3rd world countries. In the USA we just stuff a person full of pills.

No, and unless one is being Exorcised/is close to the one being exorcised/is an exorcist themself, it’s not proper to have spectators for such a thing.

No, but if we could do such a thing - be a spectator - I’d send my husband to sit in on one. It might help him.

I remember hearing the best exorcism that one can get is to confess there sins.

That’s not an Exorcism. Possession affects the body and not the soul.

However, being in a State of Grace puts you in a far better position to combat the devil.

No, I am not a priest. Real exorcisms are private prayers, they are not public entertainment.

Even if I could, quite frankly I don’t think I’d want to.
Very true. For someone to even of been authentically possessed usually involves somebody practicing the occult in one degree of some sort.

I suppose - lol - of myself - no easy task !

But no way, I heard though - of this one priest - who was thrown out of a 10th story window.

I have never witnessed an exorcism, and if Christ so wills it, I never will. I can’t imagine anything more horrifying and, indeed, dangerous.

Every byzantine baptism begins with an exorcism . . .

That’s not a bad idea for us all. We all struggling with some demons of one degree or another.

No, but I did witness something I’ll never forget. I went to a healing/prayer service in Arizona where a well-known priest was officiating. At the end of the service, people were coming forward for healing. About 6 men escorted one young woman up front. The closer she got to the priest, the more she resisted, and the more and more, and louder and louder growling sounds were coming from her. It was not human. It truly did sound like something out of the exorcist. They took her into a back room, so I don’t really know what happened.

Ever witness an Exorcism?
On the radio, I have. Back in 1983 I used to work in West Mifflin and was driving back at dusk- I listened to AM540 out of Canonsburg, a daylight only station that had “Talk Back with Bob Larson”.

Larson had folks call in, he’d exorcise them right on the radio. Really kept control of the demons- he order them to keep quiet as he made a pitch for funds during breaks in the exorcism.

Pretty interesting.

In the Roman Rite in most western dioceses, exorcisms are somewhat secretive affairs. Many if not most dioceses conceal the name of the diocesean exorcist so that the proper evaluation processes may be followed and people may not just jump straight to the exorcist for an exorcism. It is usually a private affair between the family, exorcist and any accompanying priests or religious who attend for the specific purpose of supportive prayer and fasting.

I have lived in western countries (US and Italy) and an eastern and in the Philippines. Yes, there seem to be a higher number of true exorcisms needed in the Philippines because animistic worship, witchcraft and sorcery are much more present here.

What you need to understand about this difference between the west and developing countries is that there are two primary weapons of the demonic: the belief that demons do not exist (most western nations) and the overwhelming presence of the demonic in the world (many developing nations). In the west, demons are thought of as fictional, so they tend to work in more subtle ways than full blown possessions most of the time. In developing nations, animism, magic and superstition is still a very present part of the culture. Demons in these instances try to prove their power to the people to make them fall into superstition and magic in an attempt to combat them.

This is not to say that there are not possessions in the West. I encountered a possessed woman in Italy and then met a different woman in the Philippines eight years later who was possessed by the same demon. They still happen, the general approach of demons attempting to turn away the faithful simply differs between the west and developing nations.

I would never want to witness one unless I was asked which I do not think will ever happen. The thought of evil like that scares me. I have too much respect for the power of evil to expose myself to it without a very good reason to do so.

I would like to have a one on one sit-down with an exorcist, because I have questions I would like to have answered.
