I’ve seen in the news theres an Italian store that has been making clothes and shoes for popes for 200 years! I thought the church kept like 3 sizes of clothes… why the church don’t do that? how much those clothes costs and his red shoes?

The clothes and shoes cost as much as any other clothes and shoes a priest/bishop/cardinal would buy. Yes they are made by a tailor, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are extraordinarily expense (ie super designer prices).

The 3 sets are because no one knows what size the man elected as pope will be. I imagine that if a pope has a somewhat short pontificate, it is possible to reuse the sizes he didn’t need.

In general, I imagine that the pope doesn’t have any more ordinary cassocks than a normal person has ordinary clothes. The special vestments he wears for Masses and much of his outer clothing (like the “santa” cape that Benedict wore in the winter) belong to the Vatican and are re-used over the years by all the popes.

Would’t you want your own clothes? I mean come on, I would… Even in the military people get their own clothes, except for certain items that are used in specialized cases and specialized jobs.

I would imagine that the Liturgical dress, Chasubules, Stoles etc. would be from a common stock, but his day to day clothes? Give the man a break.

That was my reaction.

I agree.

I’m not concerned about the cost of the Pope’s clothing. I want him to be comfortable and not look like a beggar when he is meeting with world leaders.

When the Israelites were wandering the desert, god specified what he wanted the priests to wear. They were very fine and ornate clothes made of the finest materials. Don’t even get me started on the value of the tent they used for worship and sacrifice.
