Is God every thing and every where ? - twinc
God is everywhere (omnipresent) , but God is not everything (pantheism). Everything has the potential to reflect the divine, because God created everything, but this does not mean that God is everything.

Is God in Hell and Purgatory then but sort of fireproof - as Catholics we are required to accept that Hell and Purgatory are actual places - twinc

We are not required to accept that Purgatory is a place, but it is a process. Hell, by definition, it eternal separation form God.

no mention of hell then or that “He descended into Hell” etc - twinc

that is incorrectly translated. The original translation would have been He descended into “sheol”, because the souls that died before Christ’s coming did not go to hell, but rather went to wait for Christ’s ministry and particular judgement. Christ did not go to hell as we know it today, because it is impossible for Christ to be that separated from Himself.

Second, I reiterate that the church teaches purgatory is a process. It has not defined a specific place that process occurs, only affirming that purgation is completed before perfect entrance into union with God.

Third, Hell is not totally separated from God, because existance is predicated on God. Ergo, for those in hell to exist, they cannot be totally separated from God… however, to satisfy their freely willed rejection of Him, hell is as separate as it comes: it is totally separate from God’s Loving Graces.

Finally, God is eternally near every place. I don’t think it’s fair to say that God is everywhere and leave it simply at that, because then we run into Augustine’s issues with varying degrees of space containing various amounts of “God” in them, and the issues of what the distribution of God would be at that point. It is more fair to say that God is external to the universe as an infinite being and from that vantage point He is presently next to every point inside the universe without having to physically occupy real space in partiality to a given amount of space.

God is NOT everything. That is pantheism and pantheism is heresy. God creates, He is not the created.

Thomas Aquinas’ “Summa Theologica” clears up what you didn’t understand quite nicely. As I was stating, there is a difference between God being present in power of effect only versus God’s presence in Essense. One can be separated from God by being separated from His essense, and yet to even exist requires that one be sustained by the power of God, thus God is present in effect. Make no mistake, however, to be totally separated from God’s essense is to be devoid of all grace and beatific vision. There is no joy in merely having existance without having any of the joy of God’s presense in essense.
