Can you believe “the band” and the parishioners come to Church dressed like that?

“The parish encourages babies and infants to participate in nursery programs. Babies who are not quite as well mannered as this one can cause disruptions as well as stress for their parents.”

Where are the kneelers? Stupid question.

Nothing like having a rockin’ band strumming away while I dance up to get my Communion from the “Eucharistic minister.”

Note that some people like to characterize the TLM crowd as being over the hill and out of date. As anyone with TLM experience knows, the exact opposite is true. In fact, as these pictures show, parishes like this are the ones stocked with old fogies.

From the Sun. Bulletin link. This is from their “pastor”:
The old mission mentality of sending missionaries to foreign lands to convert people to Christianity is today recognized by most of us as a reflection of an antiquated and inadequate theology. Today we send people, not as missionaries but rather as missioners who build bridges supporting human rights, education and social development.

The following reflection by the Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh was used as part of the prayer at one of our recent SJA staff meetings. I think it is worth repeating:
Our true home is in the present moment. To live in the present moment is a miracle. The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green Earth in the present moment. To appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now. Peace is all around us-in the world and in nature-and within us-in our bodies and our spirits. Once we learn to touch this peace, we will be healed and transformed. It is not a matter of faith; it is a matter of practice.

When I see things like this, I sometimes think it’s time for a new Inquisition.

I tool a look at this parish website and the pictures and descriptions of the Sunday Mass are horrifying.

The theology espoused in the bulletin regarding the missionary activity of the church is also amazing.

Certainly far “out of bounds” on the catholic playing field.

It scares me.

What a pity that the apostles and martyrs died as a result of inadequate theology. If only they had known better. :whacky:

I have been watching this parish a long time now. You are missing the gay and lesbian page on the site. Look. :bigyikes:

I mean you are missing but not.

Are we sure that its Catholic? Here’s the “mission statement”:
*St. Joan of Arc is a joyful Christian community
which celebrates the loving Word of God
in worship and in action.
*We transcend traditional boundaries and draw those
who seek spiritual growth and social justice. **
*We welcome diverse ideas and encourage reflection
on the message of the Gospel. *
*We are committed to the equality
of all our members and strive to ensure
their full participation
through liturgy, education, and service. *By these means we seek to empower all
who come to grow in wisdom and bring to reality
the promise of Christ.
Enough said. Kinda speaks for itself.

The ‘Band’ is playing from behind the Altar?!? What the heck!?!

Is there anything we can do to stop the insanity? Anyone know any crazy arsonists in the St. Paul area?

The St. Joan of Arc/WAMM Peacemakers group was formed in June 1996. Our membership is comprised of St. Joan of Arc parishioners and members of Women Against Military Madness (WAMM).
Does anyone else find it ironic that a parish named after a warrior Saint has done this?

The horror of Saint Joan’s in Minneapolis has been pointed out on these threads more than once. This “parish” is not typical of a Novus Ordo parish. Saint Joan’s isn’t even Catholic, IMHO. The Arch. should shut 'em down, tear down the building, and sow the gound with salt…but then that’s just my opinion.

We should have a “jaw drop” smilie.

Whoa! Talk about a whole lot of heresy going on. I would agree, I think another Inquisition certainly wouldn’t hurt. The Archbishop or Bishop of that area definately needs to go down there and knock people back in line.

Also, the priest needs to crack open the Catechism and read some more of the Bible (not just the happy, feel good misquotes these type of people use) and just look at the horrid abuses going on!

Before Mass, people should be praying, not “socializing”. I’ve been to one other church that did that when I was younger. Even though I was only 8 or 9, I could still tell it “just wasn’t right” to be so disrespectful in church before Mass. Just absolutely disgusting and insulting.

This is just not a Roman Catholic church plain and simple. Someone needs to look into this and set these folks right.

Okay, now I really really really REALLY need a puking smily!!! Or maybe just a very depressed one.

I went to the site and found this quote:

Editor’s Note: Sunday Mass at St. Joan of Arc Church regularily fills the roughly 1000 seats and finds parishioners and visitors standing along a wall or in an open entry. Many regulars have arrive early for their normal seats. The website has visitors from all across the country and many have asked for pictures/information on what a Sunday Mass looks like. Here is our answer to that question.

They act as if majority or popularity makes everything okay. Oh, I get it, mmany people go there and like it, therefore, it must be truth…

What a joke! It kills me when people say that somethig attracts people and act like it must be good because of this…no kidding!!! that is because it caters to the world and not the things of Heaven of course people like it.

Here is your “jaw drop” smilie :bigyikes:

Orthodox Catholics in the St. Paul/Minneapolis Archdiocese have been howling for such action for years, and Archbishop Harry Flynn knows perfectly well whats been going on there, but in his bizarre wisdom has long since elected to do nothing in regard to St. Joan’s.
This is just not a Roman Catholic church plain and simple. Someone needs to look into this and set these folks right.
Apparently some folks in the Vatican did take an interest in the situation and some directives were issued, but no firm action was taken, so the status quo remains.:tsktsk:

More about it here lifesite.net/ldn/2004/oct/04102806.html :crying:

Here’s some info about the beginnings of this travesty at SJA church:

1967 - Fr Harvey Egan becomes pastor; he proceeds to “liberalize” the parish, closes the school, signs a front page ad opposing *Humanae Vitae, *encourages all present at Mass to receive communion, and writes sermons inspired by Edward Schillebeecks, Hans Kung, and Charles Curran; invites “guest homilists” including an ex-priest, Episcopalian priestess, a leftist attorney, a Gray Panther leader, and a New Age poet

1973 - Teilhard de Chardan becomes parish patron

1978 - Gloria Steinem delivers Sunday Homily

1980 - parish feminists form “Christians United to Realize Equality”

1987 - Egan retires

1990 - Katie Johnson joins visiting celebrant Fr Roy Bourgeois at alter to consecrate host and wine, repeated later in the day by two other women parishioners; Fr. Bourgeois later loses his faculties in the archdiocese, the women are not disciplined in any way

I got this information from Ungodly Rage by Donna Steichen.

if that (the website) is a Catholic Charismatic group gathering or worship, well its ok for me but if that is a sunday High Mass, well i dont think ill go in that church with that kind of mass.

i want solemn mass and not a concert mass. :banghead:

And they’re singing “Let it Be?” Wow, I don’t even think that’s in an OCP hymnal!
