in the NCW everything serves the better exchange between the spirit and the faithful. For many centuries, the Holy Spirit was silent and the church faltered. But now, the charism can bring forth great manifestations. This is the purpose we walk. An echo is a minor thing in this big picture.

Again, Arinze says:

“It is permitted to have a brief instruction that helps explain better the liturgy that is being celebrated, and even, in exceptional circumstances, a few testimonies, as long as these conform to the liturgical norms."

So what is your problem with echos? I am not here to talk about permissions and regulations. If you are interested, I can recommend the vast resources of the Internet. Sorry, but it is not my cup of tea to argue about what is written here or there. If you have a problem, come one, speak out. Thanks.
Why was NCW seminary in Guam closed by its Archbishop?
Why are you asking me? They say it was not sustainable/ Guam is a far away locality with little or no interest for most people. One seminary closes here or there, another opens over there. What is the big deal? These kinds of things happen all the time.

You seem to be rather defensive for a person who started a thread asking people to ask question. I do not have a problem with you people. I just want to hear it from NCW members, and this is an opportunity for me to hear it.

I got information from other sources including the Vatican news, but I thought to hear it from NCW members, to hear their side of the story, and for me to make a more balanced picture.

I am asking because you claim to be part of the Church, and I do not have reason to doubt that, but I have to ask question on issues that are controversial about NCW.

If these questions are out of bound in this thread, then I stop asking.

As for complying to GIRM in the mass, you said that you people did, but the Vatican I quoted clearly said you people must follow the liturgy, and not make any changes.

There are obviously changes, so I asked if those are approved by the Vatican since it said you must follow the GIRM and not to change it.

As for the Archdiocese of Guam incident, the Vatican news reported that NCW administrator misappropriated two million dollars of Carmelite nuns money to build NCW seminary for their missionaries instead of the original intention of the Carmelite nuns to build seminary for diocesan priests.

If that is true, it is certainly a problem when a Church lay organisation that has become so big that it can cause scandal in the Church. It has become a Church problem. So that’s the reason why I am asking, to hear your side of the story. I did not have the opportunity to ask this from Neocatechumate members as this may be a sensitive subject for them but since you call for questions, I thought I could get insight from you. Forget it if it is too difficult or embarrassing for you.

God bless.

To be fair, it seems like there are scandals here and there associated with all kinds of Church lay organizations. Opus Dei and Regnum Christi have been the subject of strong criticism or scandal also based on behavior of some associated with the organization.

At this point I’m leery of most Catholic lay organizations (the exceptions would probably be the ones that focus more on service in and around a parish, like Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus, rather than the ones formed later and practicing some “charism” or other) and do not understand why the Church needs to have so many, but apparently some Catholics do get a lot out of belonging to these organizations so they can’t be all bad.

I understand your question, but as I said, it is simply not my cup of tea. When you walk in a community, it is the last thing that you want to run to Vatican documents to justify your spiritual experience. I can share with you what my experience is. But you are only interested in printed letters. Well, believe me, the NCW communities surpass any written letter. We have people for that who ensure our way of Celebration is okay. It is not my job, sorry. If you still have doubts, you may always consult those whose interest is similar to yours.
you claim to be part of the Church
Oh, come on… What kind of attitude is this?! I don’t claim anything. I am a Catholic and honestly, I don’t care if you question that or not. That is your plague, not mine.
the Vatican news reported that NCW administrator misappropriated two million dollars of Carmelite nuns money to build NCW seminary
What I read is not that they built anything. But if you know better, than who am I to question you? You can read a newspaper just as well, as I do. Whatever an “administrator” is doing, it is his business and not mine. I walk in my community and don’t contact any administrators. My sisters and brothers are around me.
I did not have the opportunity to ask this from Neocatechumate members as this may be a sensitive subject
Why do you think a member of the NCW would know more than what you read in your newspaper? Why do you think the people walking in the NCW would be overly concerned with this matter in the news? We don’t read the news every day. We read the Bible.
I’m leery of most Catholic lay organizations (…) and do not understand why the Church needs to have so many
Thank you for your question, dear @Tis_Bearself! We are diverse and this is good. Our Lord Jesus did not teach uniformity. He taught us to stay the ones we are in loving and following Him.

Woah, this is a bit creepy.
Being in a community does not make the Pope and the Vatican irrelevant.
I understand the fellowship and sharing of a community can be wonderful, but you need to be careful about the message you are sending here.
Lots of Catholic communities in the past have ended up going off the rails over disregarding Vatican directives.

This is a good point I guess about diversity.
I keep looking at these different communities as on the one hand they have some attractive aspects.
But I always end up feeling they are not for me.
Perhaps it is just me that the Lord wishes to put somewhere else.

No, they are not irrelevant. They are sitting on the top of the mountain because that is their place. My humble place is at the bottom of the hill with my community. The interface is minimal. This is a good thing.
going off the rails over disregarding Vatican directives.
It is not my job to enforce Vatican directives. Why do you think I should be concerned? Derailment happens when you try to police your sisters and brothers in Christ in order to make a self-impression of being above them. But you are not above anyone. We are all created equal. Therefore, we don’t need policing. There are leaders in function in the organization who take care of that kind of business that should be taken care of.
But I always end up feeling they are not for me.
Your feelings do not mislead you. Probably you are the best as you are in what you do. Do not change that and you’ll be happy. 🤟

Nothing is wrong with the actual charism itself.
The word “charism” is a buzzword that I personally find confusing. It’s sort of like “discernment”.
I’m a big fan of really plain English.

Accusations from various people that the organization is overcontrolling and some leaders have been emotionally and physically abusive to its members.

Accusations aren’t a scandal.

It’s quite rare actually that accusations are made. They’re just recycled by people too lazy to do their homework, or two prone to trying to make distinctions between groups with Latin names!!!

They’d rather regurgitate some post they made 20 other times.

To put LC/RC in the same sentence with Opus Dei in the context of scandals is the work of a lazy person or someone with low intellectual standards.

What I’ve read is by people who are former members and were very heavily involved. While I realize that any large organization may have false accusers and bad apples in the ranks, the descriptions of what allegedly went on were alarming. Reminded me of Scientology to be honest.

Calm and refinement in one’s writing. Will help the tone around here.

How am I not being calm or refined? You are the one who asked for specifics.
I stated above that I know many people have a positive experience with these organizations, so I don’t know what you’re on about, but I’d rather not deal with it as you’re coming off vaguely threatening. Bye.

Accusations from various people that the organization is overcontrolling
Well, this kinds of accusations are easy to make. But what does it exactly mean? Is there any particular problem identified or it is just an expression of dislike by some people?

I sense some kind of jealousy, as well. It is coming from some people of good standing in their Catholic faith who cannot imagine that you can be a good Catholic by doing something different from what they do! Like being in a community or following a spiritual charism. I mean, we don’t necessarily doing more than others, but the set-up is different.

Having bumped close to Opus Dei at one point in my life, I found it rather cultish. I readily admit that it could have just been the local group with whom I got involved, but it was enough to make me shy away. I am sure many of these groups are helpful to people, but my experience is that they can take a “them” (ie all the rest of the Church) vs. “us” (we privileged insiders) approach to the faith that is a real turn-off. Perhaps it is even inevitable.

I don’t know what you’re on about
I surely hope this will convince the skeptics: over 100 thousand people are flocking to Rome at the very moment I am writing this! There will be a Great Mass cerebrated by Pope Francis on the St. Peter’s Square in Rome on May 5th celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Neocatechumenal Way!

Look, read and be amazed!

Does your parish have Masses on Saturdays at or after 4PM?

Nevermind…saw your answer…
