Ed, why should it be there? The Church tells me I’m not allowed to believe in atheistic evolution; that leaves a theistic evolutionary theory. It’s not in the biology textbook.Peace,Ed

Uh no! Teaching authority stops at the Bishop and you are not a Bishop and certainly not in union with them. As a theologian you should very well know this.We yes, I do have teaching authority, in a variety of Catholic colleges and universities. But read the catechism as you wish. I assume this means you have no answers to the questions I posed in 228.

Well, that’s news to the colleges and universities where I teach, as they’ve authorized me to teach theology even though I’m not a bishop. What a hoot!No offense, but colleges can hire any professor with wacky ideas and they do. Recent surveys show something like 95% of academics are admittedly liberal.Who suffers? The students and society at large.
You maybe authorized to teach Catholic theology, not your own flavor even though it looks like that’s what you have been doing.Well, that’s news to the colleges and universities where I teach, as they’ve authorized me to teach theology even though I’m not a bishop. What a hoot!
What does “admittedly liberal”? mean? And why do you say society suffers if they are liberal? Does it suffer more or less than it has under the current adminstration, that has needlessly killed 4,000+ soldiers?
Of course. And certainly I teach Catholic theology, although it may not be your science-rejecting, Pope-flouting flavour. You maybe authorized to teach Catholic theology, not your own flavor even though it looks like that’s what you have been doing.
Oh boy - here we go.
Most admit to being pro-culture- of- death - supporting abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, etc… That hurts our kids and society.
One more question - did you sign the mandatum?
Right, the earth is about 4.6 billion years old.Do the math and read the timelines along the bible and you’ll get a good indication, at least a starting point, at least if you are believing it as being the true word of God, he does make it something we can formulate from it if we look hard enough, and no, the world is not 6k years old, nor is it 6 million as well…
Then it’s not Catholic theology that you are teaching as you have admitted time and time again.Of course. And certainly I teach Catholic theology, although it may not be your science-rejecting, Pope-flouting flavour.
This is scary… I am supposed to be subordanate to this person that calls themselves a teacher???Of course. And certainly I teach Catholic theology, although it may not be your science-rejecting, Pope-flouting flavour.
But you don’t regard supporting conservatives as participating in the culture of death? Killing Iraqis and American soldiers through Bush’s war of choice is pretty bad, and Republicans are usually behind the large corporations that purvey pornography and violence from Hollywood. That’s why I abandoned both parties in 1991 and have voted my conscience since.
However, I suspect we’re off topic here and should get back to examining the overwhelming evidence for evolution.

No a great deal younger then that, there is science today that applies for today’s times, todays features and today’s substance, only for today though, it degrades to degenerative faults as you move back in history to extreemly large degree’s, this is where it fall flat on it’s face, it’s only just beginning to be proven in that regard, yet the majority keep it oppressed since it’s rocking the boat.Right, the earth is about 4.6 billion years old.
I say nothing about God. All I am saying is that the human brain has a tendancy to see design where there actually is none - as with clouds. Our brains are not a reliable detector of design. So far ID has not yet come up with a reliable design detector. Until it does so, it has no way to objectively show that the universe, or any of the living organisms in it, are designed.Gee, how many times has the deceiving [G?]od argument been used on these threads? So we are deluded?
Well, there was Dembski’s “explanitory filter.” But since he was unable to get it to work unless he assumed the answer beforehand, he doesn’t seem to want to talk about it, any more.So far ID has not yet come up with a reliable design detector.
Mapleoak, the Catholic Encyclopedia was published in 1917. Is this your idea of cutting edge science? Are you dissenting from the magisterium of the Church?
From the Catholic Encyclopedia: “How far is the theory of evolution based on observed facts? It is understood to be still only an hypothesis.”
newadvent.org/cathen/05654a.htm
Perhaps your 20 years in science puts you above the Church.
So the fact that everything has to be just right for life to exist in the first place is not an indicator? What about fragile ecosystems? Even if I were to remove belief in the Christian God from the equation, I could still not look around me and believe that this is all coincidental.I say nothing about God. All I am saying is that the human brain has a tendancy to see design where there actually is none - as with clouds. Our brains are not a reliable detector of design. So far ID has not yet come up with a reliable design detector. Until it does so, it has no way to objectively show that the universe, or any of the living organisms in it, are designed.

Subordinate – is that your idea of what teaching is about? I was never subordinate to any teachers, and my students are not subordinate to me. I don’t know what model of education you are presupposing. This is scary… I am supposed to be subordanate to this person that calls themselves a teacher???
Yes, you have rejected the science that scientists on this list discuss. And I teach only Catholic theology, but not your Young Earth, Bible-thumping, science-rejecting variety. Then it’s not Catholic theology that you are teaching as you have admitted time and time again.May I contact you Bishop? And the Pope nor I reject science.
The earth is indeed roughly 4.6 billion years old. With you Fundamentalists-turned-Catholic there is always some occult research out there that is just about to disprove geology or biology, although mainstream scientists are not allowed to see it. Why on earth is secrecy so big with Fundies? No a great deal younger then that, there is science today that applies for today’s times, todays features and today’s substance, only for today though, it degrades to degenerative faults as you move back in history to extreemly large degree’s, this is where it fall flat on it’s face, it’s only just beginning to be proven in that regard, yet the majority keep it oppressed since it’s rocking the boat.
I’m thankful for having the supreem teacher, the Holy Spirit and God’s word, they define everything, and those that put themselves in a position of authority, to the point where they call themselves teachers should be keeping what they teach in check, unfortunately, they don’t for they are coming from man’s perspective, not God’s.Subordinate – is that your idea of what teaching is about? I was never subordinate to any teachers, and my students are not subordinate to me. I don’t know what model of education you are presupposing.
Thank you for the label and tag, I tell it straight, no candy coating, I’ve had enough of people that try to play that game, especially those that cannot raise an argument without resorting to personal attack and petty name calling. The earth is indeed roughly 4.6 billion years old.
