Evidence of demonic possession?

Every diocese has a priest that performs exorcism. Perhaps you should talk to yours.

No no not me personally I’m honestly just trying to look for God likely in the wrong places I thought possessions would be a very evident truth of the super natural because I personally am stuck in the stage of non belief. I will admit there could be a higher power and some of the proofs are convincing me I get as many answers from God as I have from any other supernatural entity and I’m stuck not seeing any evidence of the super natural. That’s why I’m trying to investigate all this. Maybe I need to give it a break and keep praying but I keep reading threads of people that never find God.
I understand where you are coming from, and I can relate in a similar way. A while ago I was also looking in the wrong places for proof (aka in possessions, demonic existence, etc.). I wish I could help you more, but all I can say is that this stuff is very real. However, I would concentrate on finding/ knowing God through Jesus Christ, rather than through proof of satan.

Have you ever faithfully prayed the Rosary? I think you’d be amazed at what our Blessed Mother can do for our faith/ unbelief through this powerful devotion. There are countless stories of hard hearts, sinners, atheists, etc being converted through graces granted through the Rosary.

Speaking of which, I will include you in my next daily Rosary intentions. Hope you find the Truth, and I’ll do everything I can do humbly assist you in any way I can.

Or I should give up looking for evidence of the super natural and accept it. Thank you so much for the response you also have answered a few questions for me if I recall correctly. I hope you are in great health!

I appreciate this I swear I’m not trying to be so stubborn or thick headed lol. I was praying it daily for a few weeks but didn’t feel or notice any changes so I’m not going to lie I gave up. Maybe I need to resume. Thank you so much I wish I could do something to repay everyone who has helped me so much!

We don’t always have all the answers. I know I don’t have all the answers about Catholicism, and I know I never will. There’s nothing wrong for wanting a reason for believing what we believe, but we also need to understand our limitations when it comes to learning and understanding.

Well, I imagine this is done in order to protect the person and the family. I work in healthcare, and we are bound by law never to share details of any kind relating to our patients. Demonic possession is an extremely painful, frightening, and maybe even huliliating thing. It would be, in my idea, incredibly insensitive to video tape a person who is suffering from this. Also, imagine their family seeing the video :(. I understand why they are not video taped. It could be something that follows them forever if it is taped.

This is quite true. Thank you for helping me see another perspective. I hope you are having a wonderful evening!!!

You guys have had way more answers than anyone else this community has helped me immensely even if it doesn’t seem like I’m making any headway!

You are most welcome Struggling1! And let me just say, your sincere desire to believe is absolutely beautiful and inspiring. Don’t give up 🙂 because the Lord has given you the first push. The desire to believe is faith in itself as well

I really hope so I can’t see past despair yet but I’m trying so hard! Thank you all for taking valuable time to answer silly questions lol. I assure you they help me!

Luke 4: 31-37

Read this a couple weeks ago and this thread reminded me of that passage where all Jesus had to do was tell the demon to leave. The demon couldn’t do anything about it, God is more almighty.

Real Evil doesn’t show on film unless it’s produced by Hollywood. 🎬

Have you listened to the audio tapes of the exorcism of Anneliese Michel?

In reality though, numerous psychologists could state that the “possessed” person doesn’t have a psychological or organic cause but they in fact could still have one.
The field of Psychology and Psychiatry is unfortunately still quite “backwards” and much behind the rest of modern medicine-I ie:there are no lab tests used clinically which could confirm (or not confirm) the psychs opinion.
Theres no hard evidence used in these fields and everyday people are given conflicting diagnoses from different psychologists or psychiatrists depending on who they have seen.
Not only are the diagnoses themselves often in conflict but it also sometimes in conflict whether the person has a mental illness or not.

The Catholic Church tries to be prudent and cautious by requiring “potential exorcist candidates” to see medical doctors and psychiatrists first but this doesn’t go far enough,as once the psych have “cleared” the person, the exorcist priest then blindly believe their word and take it as evidence that the cause is not “earthly” and that it’s probably spiritual and therefor all systems go to do exorcism.

In reality though, there are many many unknowns in medicine still, and there are many many people with bizarre symptoms that are undiagnosed and un helped by the medical profession.
This does not indicate that they are possessed-rather it indicates that doctors are often failing people by being closed minded to new/unusual symptoms and putting these patients in the “too hard basket”.

In medicine lack of evidence does not mean evidence of lack (of an organic physical process).

Why do we need to jump to hidden occult mechanisms first rather than far more likely psychological based scenarios?

Sure if there is levitation or other very obvious preternatural phenomenon yes. But things that can be explained by hysteria, a history of abuse or other well documented psychological or stress disorders…that would appear superstitious.

Have you seen this documentary movie on the Makatu cursed Janet Moses?

In my view demonic possession is real but it is very rare and very scary/dangerous.
I personally don’t believe that most of the people that priests are exorcising are actually possessed.
I believe most have unknown physical (including mind) causes and that priests are over -reliant and over believing on the words of medical practitioners.
Ie:If a md and Psychiatrist states they could find no illness the priest will then feel comfortable to proceed.
Priests are not to be blamed as they are not trained medically so therefore don’t understand the uncertainties in medical science/profession.
Thy look to the doctors as medical experts and (unfortunately) then usually blindly believe their word as that’s all they have to go off.

In reality though it can never be 100 % ruled in or out if a person has Autism,a mental illness, mild intellectual illness,or even something like temporal lobe epilepsy because
for most of these there are no medical tests and when there are tests (eg:for something like temporal lobe epilepsy) there are no 100 % conclusive tests.

Most of the thinks exorcists take as evidence of possession can be explained by medical causes.
Eg:thrashing about, vocalisations, spitting, excessive strength, fear of priest, muttering “other languages”,fear or screaming at holy water -all of this could be experienced for example by someone with Autism if their mind was confused as to what was going on around them.
Some of these illnesses can cause distorted perception, misperceiving what is going on around them, delusional reasoning, fear of religion etc…

I think when someone is truly possessed it would be quite “sensational” in the sense that things would happen that can’t happen by human means.
Ie:person levitating, objects thrown across room without being touched, carvings appearing on the person or priests body (without being touched),etc…
