I didn t get what you mean by " the latter"
And I was present at some hipnosis session as a finishing event in a Conference abroad,
unrelated to that, and I had to leave the room. I couldn 't take what I realized what truly happening.
My husband was in the team…so I knew it wasn t fake

why are so many Catholics reluctant to acknowledge the existence of satan and his fallen angels
I have to admit, I am one of those. I perceive devil as my own ability to do wrong. The place of temptation is my own mind. Demonic possession for me is indistinguishable from mental condition. I know that the church teaches otherwise, but I just cannot go along with that teaching. Should I accept everything the church says in this regard?

I do not believe the Church is infallible in this area CC.
Just as it was not infallible on the location of hell and the angels, the sun revolving around the earth and many other assumed “facts” of ancient science/philosophy.

The man who hipnotised them really had control over them. They saw what wasn t there, behaved weird at his command, lifted a person with almost no effort, and at some point when I left, somebody was going through some painful experience. Though they told me later he stopped it,I couldn t take it.
There was more.
It was about 15 years ago,and I still remember how strong an experience to watch it was.
Two of us left the room,he approached us when it was over. He explained to us,that he was hired basically by hospitals to help control pain.

While some knowledge of the demonic is useful, too much can be seductive to draw you in for more.
Here is a paradox: you may think of ‘demonic’ as a name for incomprehensible and harmful things. But incomprehensible and harmful things do exists without demons! So why to call them demons?

I personally am stuck in the stage of non belief.
You should try to believe in the supernatural personality of Jesus first. That would lead you to God. Especially, that Jesus is God as part of the Holy Trinity. Once you see the face of Jesus, you may decide if you would need a belief in demons or not. I reckon this is not necessary for listening to Jesus.

I was praying it daily for a few weeks but didn’t feel or notice any changes so I’m not going to lie I gave up.
Try to pray the Rosary with vivid imagery from the Bible scenes. Let your imagination praying with you in awe. I used to add “Blessed is the precious fruit of thy holy womb, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!” I don’t know if this would help. It helped me!

You can actually learn a lot about Christianity
by what an actual exorcist has seen - and been through.
I heard that being one - will age you ten - fifteen years.
Very dangerous business.
People are possessed - in varying degrees - sometimes.
You - DON’T want to open - ANY portal - within you - for entry.

Well, I don’t nor have I ever said that incomprehensive and harmful things are demonic. So, no paradox.

I’m a little confused here how hypnosis got into the picture.

The belief in demons is a doctrine of the faith. It’s not open for discussion by a Catholic who accepts the teachings of the Church.

If one does not believe in demons, then how can he believe in Angels. They are nothing more than angels who have fallen, which is why they are known as fallen angels or unclean spirits.

Possession, itself, is a rare thing, but it very much exists nonetheless. I do not understand how a person can read the Gospels and not believe in the existence of unclean spirits. Generally, unclean spirits tempt people to sin as their most common interaction with humans.

Exorcism and demonic possession is like a sniper coming out from his cover or blind and showing himself, the demon generally is not advantaged by being so blatant and in the open, as when that spirit is manifesting its self through a possession. Their general mode is to keep out of the lime light as they do their best work when people don’t actually believe that they exist.

Mental illness is one thing. But demonic possession is something else entirely.

It’s typically not allowed to be filmed.

There have been exceptions, though, to my knowledge.

People tend to just say “fake!” or whatever. It’s exceedingly rare that a possession would rise to levels that exhibit præternatural phenomena from what I understand.

Yes, it is an act of intellectual humility to recognize Church authority even if you disagree with Her.

This is important in understanding the very real warfare we are in constantly.

I think that is true about supernatural manifestations. There are various choirs of demons as there are angels. Some are much more powerful than lesser demons. And also, there is the question of how many unclean spirits have taken up residence in the person.

There are a couple of things that could denote the demonic. The Demon House in Indiana was one of them. The priest exorcised the children and the mother, who were possessed. The house had many disturbances. The house, which had been bought by a man who wanted to document the creepy place, had so many ill effects that it was torn down. It was situated on Carolina Street in Gary, Indiana, and now it’s probably a vacant lot.

On You tube there are documentaries about various magicians who supposedly sold their souls to the devil in exchange for supernatural abilities. It appears there is no way humanly possible for some of the things they do, although there probably are people who would deny it till their dying breath. (My sister is one of them. She doesn’t believe the theory that they do these things with demonic assistance.)

One of them puts his hand through a jewelry case and extracts a bracelet, pulling it through an opening in the glass. Then the opening is not there anymore. That is impossible in reality.
