Evidence Supporting Authenticity of the Gospels

Hello,

I asked a question on this forum earlier this week about how we can tell that the Gospels are authentic outside of our faith. I was discouraged by the arguments of an athiest friend who asserted that the Gospels were written well after the death of Jesus by people who never knew him or his original followers. After some independent research, I found some answers that I think many of you will find interesting and faith affirming. Below is a link to an article that provides evidence that the Gospels were written shortly after the Resurrection, rather than after the fall of Jerusalem as has long been believed.

Also, I found a link that provides extra-Biblical references to Jesus (such as Josephus, Julius Africanus, and the Talmud) that confirm that he existed and even that he performed miracles.

Thanks. I particularly liked the first link. I was impressed with the phililogical evidence that the gospels were originally written in Hebrew or Aramaic, and hence were written before 70 AD. Also, the passage in John “There **is **in Jerusalem, next to the Ewes Gate a pool called Bezatha” is impressive. The actual pool was discovered by archaologists in the 19th century and matched the description in John. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pool_of_Bethesda
 
If you can Catholic Answers Live did a show titled “The Synoptic Problem” not all that long ago which goes into this, i thought it was great, sure its still available to download. Well worth a listen.
