Have any of you encountered an evil spirit and if so what did you do to combat it? Were the actions you took successful?

saw a shadow person. no action taken. it went away.
saw a ‘black dog’ in a storm. walked towards it. it disappeared. no further action taken.
felt a ‘thing’ in a church. waked towards it a second time to verify. verified later with 2 independent news articles.
in a dream saw a black tarry blob in the top corner of a room. evil spirit. and a person said ‘they are as easy to defeat as prayer’.
half awake, sleep-paralysed, saw a ghostly night-terror with hands around my neck. action taken, initiated advice received above.
sadly no more evil spirits spotted,… those were fun times.
 
Yes. Prayer and confidently rebuking them in the name of Jesus usually works. Holy water and blessed objects help. Reading certain scripture, such as Psalm 23 or something from the Gospels can also help. Worst case scenario, call the priest.
 
I sensed no evil spirits but their FIERY DARTS,
thots that pop into my head bringing Powerlessness,
isolation and self-pity and self-indulgence b/c of
their line of reasoning “b/c of such and such you
cannot possibly pray to get out of it or rid of it”.
On such a “trip” it is necessary to note that it
is from the devil and to reject it and deny it in the
Name of Jesus("take captive every thot to the
obedience of Christ"2 Cor. 10:5)
 
Yes, twice. I immediately started praying the Lord’s Prayer both times. After the second time (they were years apart, once in childhood once in adulthood) I spoke to priest about it during confession.

Several saints fought evil spirits/demons adamantly, even physically. St. Padre Pio is a great example of this, I suggest you read up on his experiences.
 
I have had some experience. This is what I learned over time and what I still practice when needs be. Look up St Anthony of the Desert who was greatly afflicted by demons. As was St John Vianney and St Teresa of Avilla.

The sign of the cross is VERY powerful. Use it if attacked. The most holy names of Jesus and Mary are equally VERY powerful. Again call on Them if attacked. Keep a properly blessed St Benedict’s medal in your room and on your person. Keep and use blessed salt and/or holy water regularly. Place properly blessed sacramentals in your home; holy pictures, statues, crucifixes. Wear a properly blessed scapular and miraculous medal. Sacramentals are VERY powerful when blessed and used properly.

Pray the Rosary daily. The Blessed Virgin Mary is greatly feared by demons as is St Joseph. Ask for Their help. Ask your Guardian Angel and St Michael Archangel to come to your aid. You may also pray prayers of protection and/or exorcism suitable for lay people. Pray the prayer to St Michael Archangel daily.

Stay in the state of grace. Go to Mass as often as you can, at least on Sunday. It is better to go at least 3-4 times a week. Go to confession at least once a month. Go to Adoration weekly for at least an hour; more if you can manage it.

Trust in God. Ask for His help. Do not be afraid. Demons can only do what God permits. God protects us. He is the Creator. They are mere creatures.

God is infinitely more powerful than any demon.

The above I found very helpful. All praise and glory to God the Father, Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and of course our most Holy and Blessed Mother Mary, Ever Virgin Queen of Heaven.
 
Thank you all for the advice. This thread is seeking advice for a friend of mine. She bought a house 3 months ago which has brought her many sleepless nights due to some unexplained and terrifying encounters. I have never seen her in this state of anxiety and fright in our 11year friendship.

I spoke to my Priest who is willing to bless the house, although my friend is an atheist, she is at the point of willing to try anything. I now have some more ideas…thank you.

This is a great prayer, the Jesus Prayer,
it applies the Precious Blood of Jesus to
oneself!!
 
ive seen black jackals in the rooms while my relatives died in my grandaddys room, and once when i began hemoraging in child birth the dog/jackal appeared but shadowy not flesh, but the scariest is the flesh and blood black dog that used to follow me from florida to mexico i saw this same dog my husband saw it too so im not psycho, i find saying oh precious blood cover me helps.
 
Our home sat vacant almost a year while trying to sell it. Opportunity came up to allow a young pastor and his family to live in it for several months. They moved out and we still couldn’t sell so we moved back in. An oppressive, ominous, dark heavy feeling permeated the house. Had a priest come bless the house. Evil presence left. Periodically sprinkle Holy water while praying in every room.
 
Friends, this is an update on the status of my friend and her “possessed house”.

Our Priest performed a blessing whilst sprinkling holy water. After which my hubby installed a crucifix in the house.

My friend just called. It has been 4 nights since she returned and not a single incident or nightmare has occurred. We stayed with her the first night.

Thank you Holy Spirit, St Michael the Archangel and St Bruno.

Thank you to all of you here for your prayers, especially to the person who shall remain anonymous who gave us some great advice.
