Evil

Evil is the misapplication of a good, a negation rather than a positive. For instance, the poor deluded soul who shot 26 children and teachers to death and then himself believed he was acting for the good–his good. In his madness he believed his evil intent was good.

Taking that example, let us go further, in order for their to be an evil there must be a good that can be twisted into an evil. So, shooting guns, in and of itself, is not evil. It’s the target and the reason that makes it an evil, hence it turns a good or a neutral act into an evil.

When Adam and Eve fell they did so by doing something ordinarily harmless–eating a bit of fruit. But their motives for eating it and their knowledge that it was forbidden made it an evil act that cut them off, through their own actions, from the very thing they thought they wanted, wisdom.

So evil is a negative that destroys the positive that is neutral or good.
