What is the nature of the soul? Is it akin to a personality? Does the soul remain unchanged throughout a person’s life even though a person may change as it grows?
I don’t know what the Church teaches, but my idea of the soul is it’s like personhood. It’s an extension of a being’s identity. You are you, but you have a soul and a person. The soul answers to God and the person answers to society. That is my understanding of what the soul is.

The person is the composit of body and soul. The soul remains the same throughout life even though every cell in the body is replaced about seven times throughout ones life. The soul remember is a spiritual substance, it has no potency to change. And since the soul is the form of the body the Person also remains unchanged throughout life. We are the same person on our last day that we were on our first day.

Show one Church document that references any sort of hybrid or hominid. There aren’t any.
Genesis 6:1-4 has humans interbreeding with non-humans. Does Genesis count as a “Church document”?

Does the church teach that the soul that God has given us is a generic one and not necessarily matched to ones personality?
I’m not Catholic, I just cited the Catechism to show that in the Church a soul has nothing to do with DNA.

I think the main points about the soul are 362 to 368 here - vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p1s2c1p6.htm

366 says it is individual (and also immortal so it obviously can’t depend on chemicals).

Just on the face of it, you should know this would be impossible. How could an immaterial being mate with a human?

The Church explains this passage as follows. The sons of Adam and Eve who followed the Lord were termed Sons of God. While those who followed Cain were termed sons of men.

Nobody said anything about immaterial beings mating with humans. During the days of Adam and Eve, other hominids were likely available for mating. This is likely the way that Cain found wives in the East of Eden.

If Adam and Eve’s first two offspring were Sons of God, did they differ from Jesus in that they were adopted by God rather than begotten by God? Both terms “sons of God” and “son of God” appear in Jewish literature and leaders of the people, kings and princes were called “sons of God”, predating the New Testament.

Did immaterial God mate with the Virgin Mary, or did he just have a material embryo implanted in her womb while preserving her virginity?

Sorry, I thought you were making the same erroneous conclusion made by others.

The Catholic Church holds that all true men were descended from the first human pair. Nor is it likely that Cain and Able were born after their parents were expelled from the Garden.

" Sons of God " here should be interpreted as descendents of Adam and Ever who worshiped God and lived good moral lives. They could be regarded as " adopted sons of God " in the sense that all morally good people are adopted sons of God. And therefore, they differed from Christ, who was God’s real son.

God is a Spirit, what you suggest is not possible and is very irreverent. We don’t know how God worked this miracle. Obviously, He who created the universe can do what he wishes just by willing it. On the other hand he turned water into wine. So he could have converted the available material into a male body.

There is a lot of excellent information out there so I am assuming you are asking random people on the Internet because you are not truly interested in knowing the answer.

However, your questions do offer me an excuse for spouting off on the matter:

So here I am at the monitor, participating within a continuous physical reality,
the experience of which is formed by events such as the release of photons from the screen,
travelling through space to the retina causing chemical reactions,
followed by a cascade of events that include the travelling of action potentials down axons,
releasing neurochemicals across synapses where dentrites meet.
These “messages” travel through the midbrain to the occipital cortex and across areas of the brain involved in “decoding” the “information”.
All that is happening according to the model of neural physiology, are complex biochemical changes - no “mesages”, no “information” - just chemicals.
But because of all this, we are able to understand what is on the page.
That these words have actual meaning is possible because we also belong to the realm of mind and spirit.
One knows, understands.
So how does one come to know the knower. One can seek oneself in the realm of ideas, and revealed truth. One can also sit in silence, in prayer, leaving behind illusions: misunderstood, misapplied and/or mistaken teachings - in that silence, beyond attachments, realizing oneself.
Ultimately, one is led to He, in whose image we were created - God, the Source of all Being, Beauty, Goodness and Truth.

BTW: this physical, mental and spiritual stuff: all are aspects of the unity, the whole that is the human person.

It is pretty clear that if one does not have an inkling of the divine, of the world of the spirit, one will end up talking about hominids and such, missing the whole point.

Your assumption is wrong. I am really interested in knowing an answer. Understanding the nature of the soul is a key interest of mine. That way I can avoid asking unanswerable questions.

If you don’t want unanswerable questions, you may wish to reconsider science:

The possible end to this type of search for truth: ever-new models and explanations constrained only by the limits of human imagination.
