Evolution of Catholic Radio

This is kind of along the lines of the ‘does anyone else feel this way thread’, but I think it’s a slightly different variation so I thought I should start a new one.

We don’t have Catholic Radio in my area so what I know about it is based entirely on this forum and listening to CA Live archives…my question is, how does Catholic Radio compare to the extremely popular Protestan-Christian music stations around the country. These stations play mostly music to attract a wide range of listeners, but they also manage to evangelize by working in a little bit of their ‘message’ now and then throughout the day.

How do you see Catholic Radio evolving over the next few years to ‘compete’ with these very well-established Protestant music stations?

I listen to Catholic radio every day, and I find it far superior to the Protestant stations. Protestant stations around where I live mostly play inspiring music all day and not much talk. When they do have a talk program, there’s not much substance to it. Protestant stations are trying to reach out to a large population, and some Protestant churches differ in their beliefs. In order to keep their audience, these stations usually don’t tackle hard issues, but rather preach the same “faith alone, Bible alone” stuff. There is nothing wrong with that, but I don’t ever seem to hear about such topics as abortion, euthanasia, and other moral issues. The Protestant stations are very limited as to what they can talk about, whereas the Catholic radio stations can talk about moral issues, the Eucharist, saints, the Mass, and the list goes on. I think eventually more non-Catholics will be tuning in to Catholic radio rather than Protestant radio because of the meatier topics. And hopefully this will bring about many conversions.

I have to agree with Asella. I think she hits the nail on the head in terms of the major difference between cathlic radio such as EWTN , CA, and Ave Maria Radio. I listen to learn more than I listen to be inspired. I want to know the news of the church, church history, morall issues, etc. I like to get encouragement and inspiration but for myself I don’t want it to be the main focus.
I started listening to catholic radio after hearing CA for the first time. I was a regular listener. Now with our only station being a Relevant radio station I never listen to CA and miss it greatly. I am fortunate to be able to listen to Kresta about 10:00pm (when the signal is very weak and noisy). I find that I listen to Catholic radio less and less now htat my only choice is Relevant Radio. There programing is so much less meaty.
For me I would listen more meat.
I wonder though if the programming is meatier, will only protestants be listening on Fridays?
