Tom of Assisi:
It is the logical consequence of your belief that you are descended from monkey love and not the Garden of Eden. I am explaining why your little idea is not compatable with Christian reality.
That argument will, no doubt, change someone’s mind and make us ignore all of the science.

Peace

If we read Genesis we see that the creation story is process oriented. There is nothing there that prevents God from using an evolutionary process to create all things. The point is, however, that Catholics must believe that God is the “prime mover” – He may have used evolution as the process by which things arrived at where they are now. In effect, if we believe in one or more of the theories of evolution (there are numerous) we must also believe in “intelligent design” and that the designer is God Himself.

Nothing like a Creationism/Evolution debate to bring out the angry in everyone! 🙂

I wouldn’t know who to respond to since so much has been rehashed.

However, a few items that I felt like opining on:

“There is nothing there that prevents God from using an evolutionary process to create all things” - Nothing except that God said he created man and woman separate from the animals, and that there is zero scientific proof that an animal has ever reproduced and created a different kind of animal (I differentiate “kind” from “species” of course, since species is a man-made term to classify animals)

Someone in this thread mentioned the arm and leg like structures on whales as support for evolution, as well as “Chimps have all the same building blocks as people without as big of a brain. They even have the same kinds of reproductive organs.” and this of course suggests evolution to “evolutionists”. Well, it also suggests a common Designer.

As far as age of the Earth debate, there are a number of things to think about when it comes to this debate that atheists and evolutionists (which sometimes seems to be the same religion):
  • The Earth’s rotation is slowing down. Every few years they have to adjust the clocks to take this into account to get us back on the correct time. Common sense requires that the Earth used to rotate faster. Project that out “billions of years” and you get wind speeds and gravity that prevent the development of life.
  • The moon is slowly moving away from Earth. Common sense requires that the moon used to be closer. Project that out “billions of years” and you have tides that would make the earth uninhabitable (to the life that supposedly formed first in Earth’s oceans).
Bottom line is both Christianity and “Evolution” are religions, neither proven absolutely. The difference is Christians admit that Christianity is a religion and that they can’t “prove” much of what they believe. “Evolutionists” can’t admit they have elevated it to a religion as well. Especially since we’ve never proven spontaneous creation of life from non-living material, can’t prove the earth is as old as they say it is, and have never seen an animal give birth to a different kind of animal.

Oh yea, I’m a catholic (not “fundamentalist”)
