That study is from 2009, and only refers to “known” theropod dinosaurs. We did not then, and do not now, have fossils of every species of theropod dinosaur. In particular there have been a lot of recent discoveries of small feathered theropods in China with more to come.

See Lee et al (2012) Sustained miniaturization and anatomical innovation in the dinosaurian ancestors of birds, for a more recent paper on the descent of birds from some small theropod dinosaurs.

I don’t trust China as a source. They are very skilled craftsmen who know what people want.

In dating the bones instead of the rocks some were dated around 28,000 years ago. Soft tissue findings too.

References please. The soft tissue may well be genuine, but for bone dating I would need to see the data.
