Do you feel that Eastern Catholics are not given proper place on EWTN? I’ve only ever seen one documentary upon Eastern Catholics. Its been the same one repeatedly now for over three years. lol…

I really do feel that the other ritual churches do not get enough exposure even on the worlds greatest Catholic network. Am I wrong?

well, the spanish version of ewtn has a regular program about the melkites.

Dig through the audio archives and you’ll see a lot of their live shows with eastern catholic guests. Father Mitch is also biritual with the Maronite liturgy. EWTN live particularly has a lot of Maronite guests.

They are just as sparse with the latin mass. I would love if they would regularly show masses from other liturgies as well, including the TLM and Maronite Mass.

relevant radio also has a regular program called light of the east.

Well, EWTN is run by Roman Catholics with a target of predominantly Roman Catholics. Not surprising there.

Yeah I know but its target should be the universal Catholic Church made up of 22 ritual Churches of which the Roman is the largest. I’ve had so many people ( as I’m sure you have also ) approach me and say that the EC’s are not Catholic and that only a roman priest
is Catholic and thats that. The knowledge is so little of the EC here in the west that just one repetitive documentary on EWTN is not good enough In my opinion.

EWTN is a business as much as it is a missionary outreach organization. More EC coverage would be great, but honestly I don’t see how we can say what their strategies and target audiences should be. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of, in this case, the great.

I would love to see Eastern Catholicism featured more prominently on EWTN, but I think that the reason it is not featured as much as Roman Catholicism is because EWTN’s audience consists mostly of Roman Catholics. I think it makes sense that most of its programming is targeted at its audience, but I also think that learning about Eastern Christianity could be beneficial to Roman Catholics. Of course, it would also be good for Eastern Catholics to have programs devoted to their beliefs because their views are just as valid.

I can’t stand the hokey programs that often air on EWTN. It’s good content but the delivery suffers. If they spent a bit more in polishing the program with good hosts/narrators and presentation it would be rockin’. I also think the Daily Mass, Rosary, Divine Mercy and all those Devotions are worthless as televised medium. I think the people that love those devotions and daily mass will go and take part in it at their parish or group instead of passively sitting at home and watching it on tv. But your mileage may vary. I’d rather have a documentary air…

Well, the Daily Mass on TV helps those who are at home sick or because of age at least be virtually in a Mass. Yes it doesn’t count for an actual attendance in a Liturgy, but it still helps people who can’t be in one.

Also, I do also agree about more Eastern Catholicism content. But like I said, the reality is their target audience are Roman Catholics, most of whom doesn’t care much about Eastern Catholicism.

There’s always Orientale Lumen TV.

I am lucky to have a Maronite Church just a mile or two down the road, however I have yet to attend a mass there, but have been to the Lebanese Festivals they have yearly.

Eastern Catholics are a very small percentage of worldwide Catholics. The same is true of Western Rite Orthodox in the Orthodox communion. If you look at Ancient Faith Radio or other Orthodox programming, you will find relatively few broadcasts on Western Rite Orthodoxy.
