EWTN and private revelation

Someone gave me a copy of St Faustinas Diary years ago . I read only a few chapters before dismissing it as rubbish.
LIstening about her on EWTN Ive stared to reread it with a new openness and find now so much there for us to learn from, especially about humility. Mary DID appear at Fatima, I believe the 3000 people that saw her, Jesus can also appear to whome He pleases with a message for our good. I can imagine the torment St Faustina was in . I certainly wouldnt want Jesus appearing to me to help Him in that way.

I initially had almost the same reaction the first time I started to read her diary. In fact, I thought she came across as completely crazy. Not just because she claimed to talk to Jesus, but just mentally unstable and depressed. But for some reason I had always been drawn to the image of the Divine Mercy, so I decided to keep reading. That was several years ago, and I am now in the process of reading it again…very slowly this time. I believe that special graces are obtained just by reading the diary because I have never in my life felt so close to God as I do during the periods of time when I’m reading her diary.

So, I don’t think she’s crazy anymore, lol…

And I definitely feel the same as you do about Fatima. Anybody would be a complete fool to dismiss such an event that was witnessed by so many people and recorded in newspapers by non-believers. If somebody is THAT skeptical, why do they even bother believing in the Resurrection that was only witnessed by a handful of people?

There was one show about Padre Pio on EWTN some time ago, with Fr. Bing, I think it was. He was saying all these one-liners about Padre Pio. It was a show during the middle of the night. He woke me right up, because he said that Padre Pio used to take children to his “cell” to give them candy. What? He wouldn’t get away with that today in the U.S., I hope. Why would a monk have candy in his cell, anyway? And, how much could he possibly have, to take children there to give them some? Bing’s statement came and went so fast. I’ve never seen that show on TV again (after I complained about it). That stuff didn’t make sense, and who cares anyway?

Just WHAT exactly are you implying that this obvious pious, holy man did to those children? Good grief! Have you no respect?

Anyways, as for private revelation…no, we are not required to believe in any of them. But I think one is really missing out when they just automatically dismiss an alleged apparition “just because they can”. When you’re so busy being doubtful and resistful, you end up missing out on the graces that may be available from such a supernatural event. Yes, we should be careful, but if you believe and it turns out that it was false, what have you lost? If you rejected the apparition and it turned out to be true, then you just missed out on a little assistance from Heaven.
