EWTN - Bahkita

The film Bahkita is on EWTN tonight. It is in two parts. I remember it being a very good film with production values a step above the usual films in this vein.
 
I have it set to record tonight. As much as I love EWTN, I usually don’t watch the movies they air since they’re almost always in Italian and/or poorly made IMHO, but I saw part of “Bakhita” when it aired a while back ago and it was awesome. Can’t wait to see it in its entirety.

You kind of have to take into account the folks who make Catholic movies are indies that do not have access to a Big Hollywood Studio budget provided by Hollywood Producers.

There was one I remember seeing about the Uprising in the Vendee (1793-1796) by Catholics during the French Revolution and it utilized an all child cast to tell the story.

It wasn’t the greatest movie in the world but it told the story about a slice of history that would never get any attention from Hollywood or the (now essentially defunct) History Channel or PBS and was informative and creatively done.

I saw that and thought it was mediocre. I guess it was made for teenagers? I think the best film I have seen on EWTN was the one about St. Kateri Tekakwitha.
 
As I was going through CAF posts, I saw your post on Bahkita coming on EWTN tonight

Unfortunately, the pointless liberties they took in changing historical facts spoiled the product for me.

The movie about the Vendee uprising may have been lacking by filmmaking standards, but that particular era of resistance to the persecutions of the French Revolution deserves to be more widely known. In some respects it reminds me of the Cristero war in Mexico.
A few recent books on the subject:
Michael Davies “For Altar and Throne: The Rising in the Vendee”
and Reynald Secher’s “A French Genocide: The Vendee”
