EWTN was once on my cable system 24/7. That changed about 10 years ago. First, their hours were drastically cut back and had to share minimal time with a porn station.
That is horrible! If the cable company is going to make EWTN share the channel, it should at least be with another religious station, not porn!

Really, it is pretty insulting that in the 2nd largest Archdiocese in the country, one of the major cable systems can’t find a way to air the Catholic station 24/7.
I feel the same way. My diocese is certainly not one of the largest, but one would think that the high percentage of Catholics in the population here would justify 24/7 coverage for EWTN.

It is such a disappointment when I am watching (and enjoying) an EWTN show that spans the transition time, and it suddenly goes off the air, to be replaced with Benny Hinn. 😦

The only reason we subscribe to satellite service is to get EWTN, 😃
I have seriously considered getting digital cable just for the 24/7 EWTN too!

Well, there was a certain irony in it. The people at the cable company who made the decision were apparently idiots for doing it. But, then, perhaps it had some value. I always joked about the pervert who after watching his porn saw this grey robed/long bearded guy on his TV set and wondered what kind of kinky thing this was… just to get a talking to by Fr. Groechell.

I fear it’s a Catch 22 here. People need to complain to the cable companies that they want EWTN. But they need to see EWTN to know that it is important and help them to grow in faith to the point where they will demand it.

I’m not complaining too much; at least we have EWTN 21 hours a day on weekdays (19 hours on Saturdays, 12 hours on Sundays).

That’s better than my previous town’s cable company, which refused to add EWTN at all, claiming that they would then have to use up channels for everyone else’s religious networks as well (and this, after getting a petition to add EWTN, signed by several hundred town residents). Couple of months later, they added an evangelical network. :banghead:

Incidentally, when I first moved here, I had no idea that EWTN was available; I had just assumed it wasn’t, like in my old town. Then one Sunday after Mass, the announcements included the availability of the printed EWTN schedule at the back of the church – I went home and started channel-surfing, and sure enough, there it was! 🙂

Yeah, it’s a cheap excuse to try pulling the wool over people’s eyes, particularly churchy types who they figure are just nice, stupid, simpletons. In the end, to them it is all and only about $, really, and they just either don’t figure that there can possibly be a return from airring EWTN or they don’t want to be bothered by religiousity and religious people.

If you want EWTN ditch cable for either Dish Network or Direct TV - 100% digital and both carry EWTN 24/7. 👍

We get EWTN from 12:01 am Saturday to 12:00 midnight Sunday, and from 12:01 am to 12 midnight on Wednesday. The rest of the time the same station carries TBN or another religious channel, which is really odd since they also have a station dedicated strictly to TBN. Something I haven’t gotten a straight answer from my cable company about.

I subscribed to Sirius radio just to get EWTN in the gaps.

You can go to EWTN.com and request information on becoming a “media missionary” to help promote the channel and to organize efforts to bring the channel to places that don’t carry it.

It’s on 24/7 here, though I refuse to vote in the poll on principle.
