EWTN is boring

EWTN is alright. There’s occasionally good stuff there but I’ve never expected it to be perfect. High-production stuff isn’t cheap. I don’t like twitter in the first place and I also don’t expect that our Pope will be uploading XXX awesome things on twitter given his position and the amount of time, energy and work he has.

I really enjoy reading these posts. I’ll be sure to check those out as well. For the most part, I’ve been reading blogs, follwing vatican and romereports as well as watching the uploaded episodes hosted by (the awesome) Archbishop Fulton Sheen on Youtube.

Uh…have you ever listened to “the old nun”? She is hysterical. And she is also the powerhouse that made EWTN come into being.

As for the rest of your post, I think it would be a good idea to write a letter to EWTN stating your concerns, and making it very clear what people your age would actually watch and be interested in. Turn your criticism into constructive criticism.

Please consider doing that, and possibly include a few of your peers and make it a group effort.

I think EWTN would love to hear from you.
🙂

Peace…
LM
Did you just suggest that the OP “write a letter”? Lol!! You’ve made my day and the OP’s point! A LETTER! Actually write, on a piece of paper, put it in an envelope, etc. This is hysterical.

EWTN is sadly dull and boring. To its credit EWTN adheres to the faithful presentation of all that the Catholic Church believes and teaches.

Did you just feel like posting something nasty or did you think you would accomplish something by doing so?

Write a letter, send an email, make a phone call, go see them, but for the love of God and all that is holy don’t just sit around on your computer lamenting about what’s wrong with the world.

Your hateful little post must made MY point…you and the OP both need to get up off your duffs and do something about the things you are unhappy about rather than complain and do nothing and post mean things on these forums in response to posts that are just trying to be helpful rather than critical.

You owe me an apology.

I certainly apologize for having upset you. I suppose I was a little too snarky. But I did write that you had, “made my day” so the post was really meant to poke fun at you. I’ll have to spend some time today locating my duff so I can get off of it.

Peace, g

Thanks for that. It just “sounded” really caustic… to me. On top of that I did not allow for all that is lost in this type of communication: tone of voice, etc. So, for overlooking that and for “flying off the handle”, please accept my apology as well.

Peace, M:o

I guess my biggest complaint with EWTN is the Daily Mass, it doesn’t translate well at all to the Daily Mass i’m used to attending since returning to the Church.

I very much want to watch the Daily Mass on EWTN on the days I have to work and cann’t make it in person, but when half of it is chanted and with the use of Latin and a 15 minute Homily, it’s just doesn’t translate to this Midwestern guy who’s use to a 25-30 minute daily Mass.

So I know this is pretty much heresey to say this but I think EWTN is boring…

I mean there are no programs geared towards college students… Believe it or not Catholic College students use social media like other people… And no one has utilized social media to reach out to us…

Papa Benedict has a Twitter and even that’s not much fun 😦

They Church needs to utilize social media more… Bring it into the 21st Century…

Every time I turn on the channel all I see is a bunch of old Nuns praying… I don’t want to watch Nuns praying… Students like me what informative, interesting, cutting edge, and hype programming…

Not a 90 year old nun on the tube (no offense to people who like that stuff)… 😦
That 90 year old nun would kick any bodies butts!

But in all seriousness, have you seen the show, Life on the Rock? Its geared to younger people.

That is understandable. And if I may make a few suggestions, perhaps it will help you more.
First, put some effort into your knowledge of the Mass. There are a good number of books out there that will help. Especially with the chanting and Latin. As Latin was and still is the language of our Church.
Second, listen to what the homily is, really focus on it. See what readings they’re doing, and when you have time, follow them based on what the priests say.

Not trying to be mean, but a 20-30 minute Mass seems a bit too short for my tastes. There just doesn’t seem to have that much meat in it.

What do you mean? Daily mass has exactly the same content as a Sunday mass except the Gloria, one of the epistle readings and the creed are omitted. And there’s usually no singing. Those changes, along with fewer attendees meaning shorter communion lines, considerably cut down the length.

If you think music or extra prayers constitute the ‘meat’ of the mass then your understanding of the sacrament is sadly lacking.

No but what I meant was that the weekday masses I have ever been to have been near an hour, not 20-30 minutes, save for when I was in catholic school, and we had about 20 minutes of mass then. Otherwise I’ve always understood week day and weekend Masses have been about the same time

I don’t think EWTN is “boring” at all. It really reminds me of what “public access” cable was supposed to be - modestly-budgeted programming designed with community interest in mind. Some EWTN programs and specials look more ‘professional’ than others because their programming content tends to be from various sources, but so what? I wish there were more cable channels that didn’t rely on focus groups for their programming.

Oh wow…what a surprise to look on the forum and find this of all nights. I was just talking to my wife about this (just about EWTN TV…not radio). I love being Catholic…listen to Catholic radio any chance I get…but I have never been impressed with the programming I have seen on EWTN TV compared to some of the protestant stations out there. I faithfully check the programming guide…have even DVR’ed some things I thought sounded interesting…but most of the programs on there don’t have a lot of the flare I’m looking for while watching TV. Most of it is better suited for Catholic radio.

I will still faithfully watch for interesting Catholic TV programs on EWTN…but I have to say that I typically migrate to watching the 700 Club instead…and disagreeing with Pat Robertson’s advise when he promotes non-Catholic teachings :o)
