On EWTN now. Just started. One hour.
Repeating Fri. and Sat..
So far it seems to be focused only on Latin Church sisters, although the description says both Eastern “Rite” and Latin “Rite” nuns.

Edit- It’s just begun talking about the Ukrainian Greek Catholics.

sorry to say I was not able to see this program. However, with my personal experience and knowledge I can tell you of true stories that you would not believe in the present times. Nuns raped and then slaughtered; peasants killed for housing a traveling priest, etc.

I have spoken in person to Mother Angelica in the past about the Eastern Rite, the trials and tribulations and the true faith of the suffering church in Ukraine. Sorry to say, she listened but I don’t think the grasped the intensity of our conversation.

I personally KNOW people who have suffered and/or died for their faith, in Ukraine but this is ‘far off’ and’ not reaching’ and not supported by the national aid groups as in Africa (though that too is a tragedy but not on this post), The movie: Shoes of the Fisherman, was written with Josyf Slypyj (sp?) in mind - who suffered 18 years in Siberia for his faith and finally was released by the ‘news of Rome’ and became patriarch of the Ukrainians under Rome. In the movie he was noted as a Russian but keep in mind at that time they did not know what a Ukrainian was.

I am sorry to say but I think the Western Church is oblivious to any faithful suffering of our church unless the United Nations or another ‘politically correct’ organization brings it to light.

Reminder that this is supposed to broadcast again tonight 10:00 PM Eastern Time and tomorrow 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
INTERRUPTED LIVES: CATHOLIC SISTERS UNDER EUROPEAN COMMUNISM: Documentary exploring the plight of Eastern-rite and Latin-rite Sisters under Soviet domination - who lived out their religious vocations underground from the end of WWII to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

I can kind of see Mother Angelica say something like ‘well gee thats sad… remember to watch EWTN on and look through our catalogue! Have a lovely day…’

It was really good. Totally awesome lives. I can’t even begin to imagine what they lived through.

Showing again right now on EWTN in SF Bay Area, maybe in other Pac Time areas, too.
