thank you posting. St. Athanasius was exiled many years for standing up to Arianism.

Can’t wait! Love the allegorical interpretation of the Fathers from Alexandria!

Yes we sure could use these saints in the fight against liberalism and modernism today.

I agree. I am reminded of description of the Church Fathers who attended the Council of Nicea. Many of them had been beaten, exiled, and one even lost an eye.

Now we cannot be even inconvenienced to stand up to evil.

Blessings

A half hour can only scratch the surface. I think most EWTN fans would want at least an hour. Personally, I’d prefer an hour each night for 5 nights. That would at least give you a better feel for each Doctor.

But I’ll settle for a half hour if that is all I can get.

Even though I knew most of what was given us it still kept my attention throughout. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

If you want to know more in detail St. Athanasius and his times there is a great book called The Apostasy That Wasn’t by Rod Bennett.

I liked the part about St. Nicholas. I had not heard that story before. I ended up going to a St. Nicholas website and reading yet another good story about him falling asleep during the Council and bilocating off to save a ship at sea before he woke up.

Well it’s a great story and we sure would like to give heretics and dissidents today a pop on the nose but there is a question of whether it actually happened. In fact the book I mentioned leans toward no it didn’t happen. But I want it to happen so it did lol.

Another great story along those lines is about St. Polycarp though he is not a Doctor of the Church. He happened to run into another heretic during his time named Marcion and kept right on walking without acknowledging him. Marcion stopped him and said ‘don’t you know me?’ Polycarp replied ‘sure I know you, the first born of satan’ lol. The consensus is that did actually take place.
