What’s not to love?

EWTN is helped me tremendously in my conversion and has strengthened me in apologetics and in my prayer life. God bless them, they are one of the best Catholic forces out there! I love:

The Journey Home
Life on the Rock (I even bought the mug!),
Mother Angelica
Fr. Groeschel
Fr. Corapi

I like it well enough in small doses. I’m pretty sure it is orthodox, and you won’t hear false teachings. But ours is a very rich faith, and the whole of Catholicism certainly can’t be contained in a single TV channel. So I would recommend EWTN for what they have to offer, but just remind people that there’s more to the Catholic faith than just what you see/hear there. It’s presented for sort of a general audience, and so it needs to be fairly simplistic, maybe about a 5th grade level, like a lot of other TV. I find that it gets repetitive - it seems like the different shows keep covering similar themes, similar questions, similar stories, and similar topics over and over again. After a while you wish they would dig deeper. But TV’s not really well suited for that.

And I think too much TV, whether good content or not, is not good for you, especially kids. So even if it’s better than whatever else is on, do get out of the house, or read a book, or something like that.

I have my classes at our diocesan pastoral center (permanent diaconate). They say EWTN is pre-Vatican II

Both!!!

PS Thanks!!!
It’s amazing how that statement is used to just shut off further discussion. What does “pre-Vatican II” mean? Does it mean that Vatican II just came along and negated the previous councils? Does it mean that what the earlier councils affirmed as is true no longer? And furthermore, those who spout that vacuous statement do not really know what Vatican II actually said. They’ve just hijacked Vatican II, twisted it into the “spirit of Vatican II” and gone off half cocked. None of the councils cancelled each other out. Vatican II affirmed Vatican I, which affirmed the Council of Trent. The councils don’t exist in a vacuum. They are an extension and an continuation of one another. If I were you, I would definitely ask them to clarify that statement, and I betcha that none of them would be able to explain it any further than that.

I enjoy it over the Internet. I can play the radio streamlink and work on the computer at the same time.
Fr. Mitch Pacwa is on right now with Open Line.

I love EWTN. I can’t see all the shows I’d like to see, because EWTN has to share the channel with an evangelical station on my cable system  , but I watch what I can.

At least EWTN is on most of the day. The cable company where I used to live wouldn’t put EWTN on the air, because then they would have to “give equal time to all religious stations”. That didn’t stop them from assigning a channel to an evangelical station, though.

There is no comparison between the programming of EWTN and that of the other station. EWTN’s is far superior. I can’t even pick a favorite show; I pretty much like everything I see there.

I agree with you about limiting TV; no argument there. But I have to say that not all of EWTN is on a “fifth grade level.” Have you listened to Fr. John Corapi teaching the Catechism lately? It can get weighty. And I particularly love that our radio station has the Divine Mercy Chaplet every day at 3:00. Nothing immature about that!

I love it.

I hear it slammed quite a bit in my deacon formation classes, though 😦
Sorry to hear that, Guy (that’s my diocese, too!). I love EWTN, and watch it for at least part of every day. I cannot say enough good things about the solid faith formation available there, and how much it has helped me grow. It does my heart good to hear that someone in the deacon program watches and loves it, too!

Good luck on your journey–I’ll keep you in prayer.

I watched it ALOT after JPII passed away and then Pope Ben came on board. But I am hard of hearing and they never seem to have closed captioning which is a big problem for me. Alas…

There was no option saying: “My cable company doesn’t carry, but if they did, I’d get it.”

I’ve heard wonderful things about Raymond Arroyo. He’s speaking in VA in July, so I’ll get to see him in person. —KCT

Love EWTN and support them 100%%%!!!

It is a great channel, my satelight dish just got it 24/7 and I could not be happier. It has really changed my life and deepend my faith!:yup: :clapping: :dancing: :tiphat: :bounce:

I don’t mean to say that it’s immature, like Sesame Street or Nick Jr. It can be weighty and yet be presented in a way that everyone will understand. I think this is even what Fr. Corapi goes for. Same idea as a newspaper. The Chaplet is that way too - anyone can appreciate it, whether they are a child or adult, with an eight grade education or a PhD.

I love EWTN!!

Any program from EWTN and CSI las vegas are the only thingsI will watch on tv anymore. Benediction, holy rosary with the nuns, and mother angelica live are my favorite. Through ewtn I was able to see so much coverage about John paul II,the conclave,Pope benedict xvi and sister lucias funeral mass

The folks at EWTN - both TV and radio - do a great job. Granted, most of their programming is conversational or documentary, but with the amount of funds they have, they do a good job. Considering they have expanded into Canada, Latin America and Spain - that is a lot of work.

There are shows that I like more than others. If there is one thing that truly disappoints me, it is the lack of coverage of the Eastern Churches. The United States is one of the very few nations on Earth where virtually all of the Particular Churches in communion with the Holy See have members and there really ought to be more coverage about them.

Call them and request it. It costs the cable company NOTHING to offer EWTN!

I have been a long time listener of ewtn on shortwave radio, and always enjoyed it very much. We had cable (adelphia) for quite a while, but when the dish network was able to get our local channels, we switched, mainly because dish offered ewtn, and enjoyed it ever since. My wife’s favorite is The Journey Home, (she is a convert) and mine is Fr. Corapi and Fr Groeschel. We would be lost without EWTN.

It is no dang wonder why we have shorteges of priests and religious.

I love EWTN. It’s something both my grandmother and I can discuss! Watching EWTN is uplifting, entertaining and educational.

I love love love EWTN! I love all things Catholic and it makes me feel so good to share all this learning with others.

Mother Angelica is a Saint. She is the most entertaining individual on tv. Father Corapi is inspiring. I love the stories of the Saints.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!
