I’ll start by stating that I am thankful for the gift of EWTN…however
The primetime lineup has not changed in the 4 years I’ve watched it and programs that I (and the rest of the under 80 crowd) would enjoy are shown at 3:30 AM ET. I enjoy Fr. Corapi but I have seen the entire Catechism series…probably several times over.

I keep seeing promotions for new programming but they are at times that are unwatchable for most of the US. Why would you show a program geared towards priestly vocations for young men at 4:30 AM?
Does anyone else feel this way? I really can’t watch another repeat of GK Chesterton. :bigyikes:

I think they are supposed to have the new line up starting this month. I agree with your comments. I LOVE EWTN, but some of the best things are on at a time when I’m either not at home (work) or early like 3:30 am. I’ve got TiVo so I usually record some of them and watch them later.

I think part of it may be the fact (perhaps) that some cities have an Archdiocese Catholic channel, like Detroit does, which lasts most of the day, and then at night starting around 8:00 p.m., EWTN comes on, and then throughout morning hours. (I think Boston has Boston Catholic Television).
Detroit had CTND (Catholic Television Newtwork of Detroit) which would show local and other independent Catholic televsion, and then at 8:00 p.m., EWTN would come on.
However, starting this year, Comcast Cable decided to make this a Digital channel, and along with a few other community access channels, charge around $4.50 a month more in order to watch them; so unless you pay the extra $$ each month, you can’t watch Catholic TV anymore (and EWTN/CTND was on for years here).
You can watch CTND over the internet for free. Watching it on TV is so much better though.
So, be happy that you have Catholic TV, and try and take the time to watch some, because I guarantee you, the way things are going, these Cable Companies will get rid of it or charge you more money each month to see it.

I would like to see more Catholic movies and well done documentaries. I also really enjoy Bishop Sheen, Benedict Groeschel, the World Over.
Not so much on the Divine Mercy repeatedly or Theology of the Body (with the couple). Find both a little on the boring side BUT with full realization that some may really enjoy it.
I used to enjoy Life on the Rock with Jeff Cavins and later Fr. Mary Francis. New guy is trying but just does not have the same ummmph.

I mostly agree with you on the programming altough I’ve worked with youth and actually have gotten a lot from Jason and Crystilina Everet.
I understand trying to sync w/ other Catholic networks, but its the 9pm ET hour that is frustrating. Its either the rosary or religious catalog. I pray at other times of the day and before bed. At 9pm I want to just sit and watch somthing interesting.

EWTN has it’s own chapel on the grounds of the TV station in Irondale, Alabama, which is essentially a northeastern suburb of Birmingham. The chapel has permanent remotely-controlled television cameras installed so as to provide the least amount of distraction to the actual services.

ABSOLUTELY!!! It’s my favorite channel! In fact, just the other day, I sent the cable guy away (I have Dish Network) and when he asked why I didn’t want cable, I told him it’s because they don’t have EWTN (cable only has it in the day time, not at night . . . Dish Network has it all the time). So yes, I absolutely watch EWTN!

My cable company put EWTN on a sports tier. So I pay for a whole bunch of sports channels that I never watch so that I can see EWTN. They have some really good programs that I watch regularly (e.g. The World Over) and I really enjoy being able to see Archbishop Sheen’s programs that I watched as a kid. He was such a masterful speaker.

EWTN is a fine network. It puts out some very orthodox programs. Though some traditionalists have issues with it, by and large, people who have big issues with EWTN simply have big issues with Church teaching. 
BR, I, also, had to pay for several extra channels to get my EWTN.
By the way, if you have an MP3 player, EWTN offers some great podcasts if you’re out of range of a good Catholic radio station…as I am…

EWTN is a miracle. I watch the programs and record many to watch them again. The Mass is beautiful. Great sermons, too.

It’s pretty good for the most part. Their budget is pretty tight so there is not a lot of glitz but the content is quality.

Most of the programming is good. But sometimes there is a “huh?” factor
For example, one time I saw a bit that claimed that Jesus’ name was holy because it was a name given only to Him and that when the Angel Gabriel spoke it to Mary, it was the first time it had ever been pronounced.
In reality, Jesus was a common name at the time and there are other people in the Bible named Jesus, not the least of which is the author of the book of Sirach and Joshua (both Jesus and Joshua are “Yeshua” in Hebrew). So I have no clue whatsoever where they came up with that idea!
