If you could purchase just one DVD set of Fr. Corapi’s for a Non-Catholic, in hopes to evanglize the Church to him, what would it be?

(speaking of my DH  )
The Catechism of the Catholic Church series. Quite a lot, but it leaves no doubt about how thorough and beautiful and scriptural the teachings of the Church really are. 👍

I, too, have long admired Father Corapi. I am very disappointed, however, that he seems to have joined the “religion for sale” crowd - I am referring specifically to his “everything for $$$” website and the fact that he doesn’t seem to appear in person anymore (I have been checking his website for a long time now - and all it seems to say anymore is “no appearances scheduled”).
Code:
I think he may have forgotten that he is a creation of EWTN. Without Mother Angelica's network no one would know who he is. And if he would take a cue from Mother - on EWTN's excellent website most everything is not for sale. Sharing the Good News is not something Mother parcels out in a $$ for this CD and $$$ for that monthly Weekly Wisdom fee.
Once again, he should look to who “made” him a media star - Mother Angelica. She founded a ministry far beyond Father’s without charging for the Good News.
The reason there are “no appearances scheduled” is because (if I remember correctly) he’s retired from his public speaking. I think it was because the whole traveling-around-the-country-giving-speeches thing was getting too much (you know, taking away from his spiritual life).

As for selling things, I for one am glad that his materials are widely available. They are great tools for reaching others.

And one last story… Our Mormon neighbor (a very devout Mormon, now a “bishop” for his area) was scanning through the radio channels one day and heard Fr. Corapi speaking. Of course he didn’t know who it was, but he figured out that he was Catholic and called up my dad to ask who it was.
Coincidentally, Fr. Corapi was scheduled to speak next week! My dad invited our neighbor, and he was able to hear a few of his talks. God works in mysterious ways, eh?

St. John the Baptist wasn’t very mild-mannered. He probably wouldn’t be liked by some today.

Fr. Corapi is on EWTN right now speaking of confession. 😃 🙂
I’m watching him now, too. And I wanted to say to those who complain about him charging for CDs or DVDs, that it costs money to make them. It costs to have people take the orders and ship them off. I wish I could afford some of these programs. I do have his conversion story, which I got through Catholicity for a donation. They will send them free.

And I’m NOT putting down EWTN, as some pointed out their programing is free. Yes, it is, if you have cable tv. (I have never heard the radio program) Resources on-line are free. But have you seen the prices in their religious catalog? I couldn’t afford some of those things. I looked at a statue earlier that was $55…others were three times that much. But they are raising much needed money. I am NOT putting them down or criticizing them. Any more than I think people should put down Fr. Corapi for charging for CDs and such. They need the money. There is even a place on EWTNs web-site for donations.

And good for Fr. Corapi having retired. I love watching him on tv. And I know he’s near my age, so he’s probably very tired from all that traveling, not to mention needing time for his own spiritual life. God bless him. He tells it like it is. And he can make me squirm at times… 😊

Luckily for me, the first time I heard him was early in '04 when he was speaking at a retreat I was attending. He didn’t seem ___fire and brimstone to me then at all and I liked him for his straight speaking with humor and intelligence. Then, I heard him on EWTN radio and was very taken aback! He did seem harsh. Since then I hear him every so often (I always have my catholic radio station on in the car, so it depends on my schedule whether I hear him - I don’t have TV). Much of the time he does seem pretty h&b, however sometimes he sounds like the person I heard speak in person, who I liked. He can prompt me to say a Divine Mercy chaplet!👍 (I say rosary anyway.)

I like and admire Father Corapi, and watch him on EWTN every chance I get. At church a few months ago, one man said, I wish we could get him to come to our church. But, that is as far as it went, and as that church isn’t my parish church, and nothing seems to have happened regarding him speaking to that congregation.
I suppose it costs money to have him speak to a congregation - and I don’t know what fee he charges .

I eyeballed it a few months back…yikes! But was thinking, what a good investment it may be. It could be used in RCIA (which I’m thinking about asking if they need help in the future when I get done), it could be used for my children as well.

It is very expensive, that’s the only reason I don’t have it in my collection. But I too think it would be worth the investment someday. I think it’s his greatest gift to the Church. 🙂

I don’t like the guy’s style (way too harsh). What purpose does his approach serve in the grand scheme of things? I wonder who decided he could make a contribution to national evangelization. I DON’T GET IT! *** Whenever I see him on TV, I bolt across the room to change channels or hit the mute button. The guy really gets under my skin. ***😦
I am really surprised that you have trouble with Father Corapi.
It must be seated in a past aversion to authority figures or something.

I am personally impressed with the Father. His teaching has touched me in a way that I did not expect. I really love his authoritarian approach which is badly needed in all of Christendom. My heart actually leapt for joy when I first heard him as it was the first preaching I had heard in years that echoed the scriptures that said that Jesus spoke with authority and not as the teachers of the law.

I am not a Catholic but when I first heard Father Corapi I recognized that there was fruit here and that I should not be afraid.

I left the Church a few years back after 25 years of devotion to the Evangelical church. I didn’t grow spiritually there and neither did others. Some did but with much difficulty.

Over the years I had heard Catholic preachers and sisters and other representatives and was stunned with their wisdom and abilities with the scripture. I finally had to concede that God was at work here and had to listen to these people.

I don’t suppose my preceding story was entirely convincing to you but I hope that I can urge you to examine why you have an aversion to this man. I, of all people, should have an aversion but see his preaching as a gift from God. His honor and respect for Jesus and the Cross is absolutely amazing!

Welcome to the site Sage, I too share your thoughts.

Father Corapi does speak clearly in a voice we need these days. All to often we hear wishy washy preaching, and some are surprised when they hear strong authorative preaching such as Father Corapi.

PauloFreire2,
I am a Catholic who came back to the Church because I realized there is substance to the Church. It is not about making people feel good but doing the right thing and putting Christ first. You cannot please everyone all the time, sometimes you have to speak up and maybe make some people uncomfortable.

Father Corapi does this, so of course it might be difficult to stomach but give him a chance and hear him out, it might be difficult but I have found him to be very helpful to my spiritual life.

In Christ
Scylla

Father Corapi is a splash of cold water on your face. Jarring, initially uncomfortable, and thoroughly refreshing. He does in-your-face catchesis and preaching.

In this world of moral relativism where everything’s-ok-as-long-as no-one-gets-hurt-or-hurt-feelings it’s nice to hear someone speak in the style Jesus did. The pharisees were so jarred, made so uncomfortable, so annoyed and offended by the in-your-face preaching Jesus did that they killed him.

St. John the Baptist was unequivocal with his sermons. He rattled consciences.

I agree. I find Father Corapi, well, to be honest, irritating. I am very sensitive to voices, and his, to me, is a fingernail-on-a-chalkboard voice.

Now, this does not mean I find *what *he says irritating. I can read and enjoy his writings, I just can’t handle his voice.

It was with great sadness I listened to Father Corapi announce his intentions to leave the priesthood this past weekend. I and my husband have so enjoyed viewing him on EWTN over the years…and looked forward to when this investigation would be over and to his return to EWTN programming. He is getting some bad advice from somewhere…and
I hope he will recant this decision. Instead of all this speculation on his decision it would be the far better thing to pray your daily rosary with his intentions in mind and ask our
dear Blessed Mother, who has helped Father before carry his burden, to wrap him in her Mantle of Protection …and lead him forward gently. He has shed Christ’s light for over
20 years…I am sure Christ will return the favor by shining His Light on Father’s path so
that he might find a way to remain faithful to Him and His priesthood. God bless all our priests who struggle daily with the wickedness and wiles of the devil…no one knows this better than Father Corapi who has met him on the road many times before. I feel there is a great battle going on for this priest’s soul…and it is prayer, not endless, useless speculation that is needed. Now is the time for mercy!

Amen to that. St. Macarius of Jerusalem, St. Cyril of Jerusalem, St. Alexander of Jerusalem, and all you holy priest-Saints, please, please, please pray for Father John Corapi!
