I’m up late watching this show and this weeks guest is Brian Robbins, a convert from Judaism. He’s speaking of the undeniable “coincidence” of Jewish holy days using the Jewish calender falling on the same days (biblically, of course, not using the Gregorian calender). Can anyone help me out and point me in the right direction for understanding this more?

Dr Brant Pitre has a recording of a undergrad class he did on the Jewish Roots of the Mass. The first few classes cover Each of the Jewish holidays and how they were fulfilled by Christ. He goes into good detail about how they overlap. I would suggest that is a thorough treatment. catholic-productions.com/store/audio/pitre/bibleandmass.html

This is such a coincidence, I was about to go to bed last night but decided to flip to EWTN at 1 am, and this episode with Brian Robbins aired, and I found it to be the most intellectually and spiritually stimulating episode of the Journey Home. I had heard the thing about the Jewish calender before but in a very general sense where some people believe the second coming of Christ will be in the autumn Jewish holidays as opposed to the spring holiday of passover when He was raised from the dead. I never knew about all of the parallels between each of the holidays and Christ’s life. I read about it in the general sense in one of the best spirituality books I have read which is called “The Crucified Rabbi” by Taylor Marshall, and it focuses in on the jewish roots of the Catholic faith.

Wow, I must have been out of it last night. I just reread my post and said to myself, “Who came up with that sloppy Joe of incoherency?” L, I’ll be sure to check out the book, and see what I can find.

As for now, I’d like to rephrase my OP. This weeks guest on the EWTN show Journey Home was Brian Robbins. He spoke of, when using the Jewish calender, that specific days of Christ’s life, the New Covenant fell on the same days as corresponding Jewish Holy days, such as Passover. While, as you can tell from my OP, I was quite out of it and half listening while skimming over some threads on the forum, so I hadn’t the chance to really pay attention.

Does anyone have any information, online or in page form, on the subjects that he was speaking of. As I look back, this subject seems extremely interesting, and I’d like to learn more about it.

EWTN has posted the entire episode on youtube, I am currently rewatching it to jot down some of the things I found interesting. Brian starts talking about the Jewish Calendar and Jesus at the 34:45 mark in the video.

I was also watching that episode. That was not what caught my ear.
Mr. Robbins commented on John 6:66. It was the way that he said it that caught my attention. He said “John Six, six six” which I had never thought that way.
I am pretty familiaiar with the 6th chapter of John but what I found is the verse where the disciples walked away…
there is only 2 other books in the entire Bible that have a 66th verse in the 6th chapter… They are 1 Chronicals 6:66 and Baruch 6:66 which they did not seem to be relevant to what I was thinking about in regards to the number 666. Is there anyway that the mark of the beast is talking those who walked away from the Bread of Life Discourse. and the vision of Johns talking about a future event where the followers would “walk away” or break away from the Church?

I am aware that chapter and verse came long after the books were written and compiled. But Revelation is also a vision of the future.

Can anyone shed any light on this? It has been bouncing back and forth in my mind and I was wondering if anyone else had made that connection. Or if I am just going nuts

Peace be with you all

imo There is no correlation between the verse numbers and the number of the beast. The verses were added over a thousand years later, and the number in revelation is not three number 6’s or a 66, or one 6 and a 66, it is Six hundred and sixty six; completely different value than any conceivable comparison in John.

I just stumbled upon this thread, albeit belatedly -Happy to chime in if I can be helpful.

Blessings,

Brian Robbins

Jump right in my friend… Just make sure you do it both feet

I thought the Brant Pitre book was/is excellent (one of the few that really get into the Jewish roots of our faith in such a powerful way) and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the topic.

I made the point about John 6:66 on the journey home show because its struck me as a powerful coincidence (if one believes in co-incidence - candidly, I’m not a huge believer in “co-incidence”) that the very verse which talks about the disciples walking away from Jesus over the inability to accept the teaching that we must consume His flesh (the Eucharist) bore the number commonly associated with Satan. That said, I do agree with the responses which note the number system of verses in the bible occurred much later (although God does work in mysterious ways at times :)).

Interstingly - today, it is disagreement over the Eucharist (whether it is really Jesus’ flesh and blood) which divides the body of Christ (Catholic and Protestant). To me, its somewhat analagous to the serpant’s statement to Eve in the garden of eden when discussing the forbidden fruit (you “wont” die if you eat it) - “its not really Jesus’s flesh and blood”. If the Eucharist was given to us by Jesus to strengthen us through this utlimate sacrament, what better tool would Satan have than to convince Christian’s it is not really Jesus’ blood and body?

Ultimately, it was the belief in, and spiritual drawing towards, the Eucharist, which led me to cross the Tiber (having come to faith in an evangelical setting).

Blessings,

Brian
