James 2:24,
New Heart:
I know many people who attend Calvary Chapel and the Word of God is taught faithfully, verse by verse. Some of the ministers have a solid Jewish background, with Greek as a major, and are very knowledgeable with the Scriptures, the nuances etc.
This is the VERY reason you need to pray for its seperated sheep. At least they base their tradition on a book from Catholic Tradition.
I would suggest you not worry about your family members attending there, and it is a good idea to go to a few services and see for yourself.
Do you have to step on a land mine to know it kills and disfigures? Do I need to eat poisen to know it kills? Get your family the truth before its too late.
…The first site listed below is a Jewish believer and teacher from a Calvary Chapel. His knowledge of the Scriptures is a real blessing.
He must have missed the part about being of one mind, not to be schismatics, etc. Did he study history on when and how we got Scriptures?

God bless, pray for your family, they need it.

I think the greater damage is often done by having rotten/dissenter literature in supposedly Catholic bookstores. When I first came back to the faith, I bought Catholicism by Richard McBrien, naively assuming that, based on heft and academic credentials, I would get a pretty authoritative view of the church. This book was recommended by a Paulist priest at the local Newman center to boot. Thank goodness I never had the stamina to wade more than a few pages into it, but what I read was disturbing enough and left me confused. That book ended up collecting a lot of dust on my bookshelf before I finally deposited it in the garbage.
INRI,

We need to keep these books in our private libraries, maybe not the Catholic books stores though. Many ignorent Catholics fall for the lies and leave His Church. Oh lets say 14-25 million EX-Catholics prove how gullible ignorent Catholics are in the US alone today. Some go to Calvary Chapel, some become Branch Davidians, some join Jonestown or Heavens Gate. The point is this, when we study the lies anti-Catholic biggot groups spew out about the Catholic Church, Christs body, the better we can educate Christians on the truth. New lies are inveted all the time. We must be aware of them so that we can educate the gullible with the truth and keep everyone Catholic and in the body of Christ.

It is important, though, that one be strong in the Faith to be able to withstand the spiritual assault.

Hi everyone in this beautiful forum, my name is ivan and I found this forum by accident
or maybe was the plan of God… but anyway, I just wanna give my opinion on the anti- catholic
feelings from the Christians, but first let me say i am sorry for my english is not that good
sometimes, I was a catholic for 20 yrs in mexico, and I was born again in california USA

what I am about to say is with love for you guys, because I was catholic also,
I know many catholics are very good persons, but now in my new walk
with Christ I discover that my problem is not with catholics but rather with the doctrine from
the vatican,

when many christians try to talk to catholics about this issue, the catholics think that we
are anti- catholics, and that far from the true, we just disagree in who do you put your trust
for your salvation, is in the virgin mary?, or the saints? (and we have many in mexico)
or is only in the person of Jesus the Christ?

when I was a catholic I put first every saint before Jesus, and that’s not right,
the word of God said in Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

and also I put the virgin mary before Jesus, and that’s not right also, Jesus is the Only way to the father
and I found out that when I was fill with his holy Spirit when I invite Jesus into my heart,
but before, I had religon from men, doing good works in hope that my salvation was in doing that,
but the true is that Jesus work in the cross, and his resurrection, is that save me, not the vatican,

I know right now you are so angry at me for writing this, and is not my intention, never,
but is the only way you can read the true and be save, please I beg you reconsider your
spiritual position, because at the white throne judgement day, when you stand before Jesus
and when the Book of life open and your name is not found, at that moment is going to be late for you, please I beg you don’t put your trust in what the vatican is saying to you,
please trust Jesus and receive his Spirit on you before is too late
God Bless you and your Family,

love you

ivan 🙂

Honestly… i was raised Catholic my whole life… Recently been saved… I go to Calvary Chapel now… I can see through birth and tradition being in the Catholic church. Thats who you are thats what your used too. Then you read the Bible. I can write a literal whole report on why I changed. Submission to church “catholicism” as opposed to a relationship with God. Ritualistic prayer, as opposed to deep passionate intimate prayer. Im not trying to compare, but show a diference. Ask 100 catholics about the bible, and then 100 from Calvary Chapel. Theres so much growth spiritually. My whole life in the Catholic church me and every one seemed to walk in and out and thats it we knew what we knew, thats it. But now everyday biblical knowledge is growing, accountability amongst beleivers is growing, between outreaches, missions trips, all different groups, My life is consumed with living my life for Christ as opposed to just acknowledgement, and submission to the church. Catholicism way of life has a million contradictions pertaining to the bible, i learned even more when i picked up a “Catholicism for dummies book” and other Pro Catholicism. DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT AND DONT IGNORE THIS… LOOK for yoursleves. you will see it then go ask your preists these questions. Im closer now with 2 catholic preists now more than ever. We debate all the time. and they will tell you. in one year they already dont do so well. not boosting myself just saying

Having a Jewish person in your congregation means absolutely nothing. Are you assuming that Jews cannot stray? There are a great many Jews in the Catholic Church as well. A couple notable Jewish-Catholic apologists are Rosalind Moss and Rhonda Chervin. Amongst many others…

I am also an ex-Calvary chapel member; I went to Church with my sister and her family before returning home to the Catholic Church. Although I only spent a short amount of time in that Church before returning home, I did do a more extensive study of it AFTER leaving.
"MsLord:
First off, no one is a “member” of any Calvary Chapel. In otherwords, there is no official “sign-up” or membership ceremony, you just show up. You admit to only spending a short time at Calvay Chapel, and yet seem to be saying you know all about them. Clearly you do not by your comments below.
Having said that **there is much to worry about in Calvary Chapel. They do not teach Biblical truth and are causing people to stray from the faith in both Protestant and Catholic circles. They hold to the “rapture” belief and teach a great many wacky things about the “end times”. Listen to Tim Staples and Jesse Romero debate them. You can get the tape “Calvary Chapel meets the Catholic Church” from St. Joe’s Communications. They blow Calvary Chapel theology away in this debate. **

MsLord:
Calvary Chapel pastors most certainly do teach Biblical truth. They are not an “end of times” rapture ministry. I don’t know where you got your information but it is woefully wrong and again, given you already said you only attended a “short” time, it seems you’re not being quite truthful with your claims above.

It is important to note that there is not a “Chuck Smith” doctrine in Calvary Chapels. Their pastors do get their training at a Calvary Chapel facility, each pastor teaches independently. In otherwords, there’s no one set curriculum, like there is in the RCC.

As far as being anti-Catholic, I don’t believe Calvary Chapel is anymore anti than the RCC is anti against any religion outside their own. I can pick up virtually any Catholic publication whether in print or online, and read some inference to “Protestants believe this”.

My pastor is a former Catholic who rarely speaks about the Catholic church, and even when he does, he doesn’t name it. He speaks directly to some of their teachings. Note, I said RARELY.

I believe you’d be hard pressed to find any church that doesn’t make mention of another denomination’s teachings at one time or another.

At Calvary Chapel we are there to learn from the word of God, not waste our time discussing other religions. Our pastors teach the Bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse. I for one very much appreciate my pastor and his exemplory knowledge about the word of God.

And to the poster who claimed the RCC owns the Bible, shame on you!
