Hmm. I have the same issue. I am a revert and still socialize with some evangelical friends. They think I was crazy going back to the Catholic church. Sometimes it is hard because little comments get made about Catholics or something similar. I want to keep them as friends and hope I can figure out ways to witness the truth of the Catholic faith to them.
I don’t know if you’re friends are experiencing this but mine are in the same boat as I was, unhappy, unfulfilled and searching for the truth. That used to be a frequent topic of conversation between us when I was searching, too. Now I want to show them where the truth is, where I found it.
This might sound weird to some but I heard someone else who used to be evangelical talking on Marcus Grodi’s show and he was explaining how they try to evangelize their friends. He said when with them is to evangelize in their language. When talking to them use wordings that they understand and not ones that will confuse them or scare them away. For an example; when talking about Sunday, maybe still say I have to go to church instead of I have to go to mass. Most protestants don’t understand what mass is. Or when talking about praying he suggested instead of saying I am praying daily to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, maybe just say Jesus. In other words show them that you are still a Christian and still in relationship with Jesus, even closer. Talk about things that are similar between you.
This is easy for me to put in print but hard to do. Since joining the Catholic church I have seen people get a little bit farther away from me and the friends I spoke of above, as far as I can tell still think I am crazy. I am praying for Catholic friends but want to continue to evangelize to them as long as God wants me to.
