Its been a while since I was even on here, but the short story is that my wife and I did end up divorcing. She was dead-set on ending the Marriage, and despite using a two-year waiting period to try to save the marriage, it ended anyway.

During the “waiting period”, she met another guy and dated him for almost the entire time. The divorce was final about 8 months ago. Since she filed for divorce, I ended up getting a fantastic new job, got two big promotions in 2 years, and was able to keep the house on my own.

I guess it was 6 months ago when things hot rock bottom for her. What I know is based on third-party information, but the guy she was with left her, she crashed her brand new car with no collision coverage, and her financial situation deteriorated almost to the point of bankruptcy.

She apparently didn’t have a good divorce lawyer because they never filed for discovery regarding my income at the time of settlement. So, 2 months later, she tried for a divorce modification when she learned of my earning potential. While she was unsuccessful, I was forced to provide full financial disclosure to the Court and her.

The magically and mysteriously, all of the sudden she decided she wanted to “reconcile”, and that civil divorce didn’t mean we weren’t still Married. I told her to go pound sand and that was the last I heard from her.

In the end, she will have most likely have successfully committed suicide. As I write this, she is essentially brain dead after overdosing on a prescription sleeping pills. I have become the target of quite a lot of hate and resentment from her family and friends, blaming her situation on me for not wanting to reconcile. There is even some strong resentment at me from our Church.

Her brother even Facebook messaged me that their family would see to it that I was never able to Marry in the Church again because I was “directly responsible” for her dying.

While I understand their anger and hurt, I don’t see the connection between her own choices to take this entire path, and my refusal to take back a woman that could not be serious about anything but money.

I cannot give you advice but it seems that you need to talk with someone. Have you consider to talk a priest. I am sure, he will give you peace of mind with your decision.

I hope you pray for her and at least the salvation of her soul. There is the divine mercy rosary/chapelet AND with Easter coming, it is the perfect time to recite this chaplet.

I pray for you.

Blessings and love!

Not your fault in the slightest, brother!

That whole ‘now look at what YOU MADE ME DO!!’ mentality is sick.

Carry on and live an abundant life…
Pray for her…may the Lord extend his mercy and healing to her crazy family.

My response would not be quite as flip but the sentiment would be the same. You tried to make the marriage work. She took off with another guy. She only wanted to come back for the money, you tried to protect yourself. She then fell victim to mental issues that are hers and hers alone.

If her family is vindictive enough to do something like keep her body alive just so you can’t get remarried… well then that’s totally crazy. Otherwise, if and when she passes, you’d be free to marry no matter what her family does.

Pray for them and for her.

It is wrong for ANY of us on this forum to assess blame. We don’t know. The OP doesn’t know what was in her heart at the time she wanted to reconcile. He could be correct and certainly has a much better view on the situation than any of us do. But if I were him, I would be talking to a priest. A lot. An internet forum is the LAST place I’d be discussing this.

Wow, let me savour and marvel at the poetic justice. Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet for your ex-wife and, at least mentally, tell some of the people in your church and your ex’s family to go pound sand. She made poor choices, stuck by them, they ended up backfiring. Nothing more to say. Have a great life.

I am sorry for the confusing situation you find yourself in and I can understand the desire to vent.

Having said that, I would seek counsel from a good friend or a priest and keep all of your thoughts off of the net. There can’t be that many recently divorced men with a brain dead ex-wife who had recently tried to reconcile with him. Get a diary if you have to and write down your thoughts and then keep it locked down, or maybe call a priest and schedule an appointment to talk about your feelings.

Sorry you’re going through all this stuff. Her family is hurting and angry and are turning it on you. Prayers for all concerned.

No, no, no.

:nope::dts:😦

To revel in others’ suffering is not “having a great life.” I think the OP needs to spend some time at the foot of the cross, frankly. Did Jesus say as he was dying, “You guys can all go pound sand, I’m done with you?”

I think the OP is still hurting from what happened but he will regret closing his heart to his ex-wife at this time. Forgiveness is the only way to keep his own dignity and his “record” clean with God. He should have COMPASSION for this broken woman whom he once took vows with. COMPASSION for her wounded family. No one has escaped from being damaged.

We can only look to Christ’s mercy and try to emulate it, even in the worst times of our lives.

OP, your ex-wife, her family and you will be in my prayers. Go and see your priest as soon as possible. Has she had last rites administered? It would be such a blessing if you would arrange for this.

Her family is ridiculous. She left you and thought the grass was greener on the other side. She found another guy and then she tried to soak you for more money after your success. Then she tried to get her claws into you when her life nosedived. Instead of facing the music with her poor choices she tries to off herself. COWARD, like all suicides are.

Her family is mad at you? Find another Church and don’t look back. It was all her choices she ended up the way she is. I wouldn’t even think about going to her bedside.

Actually you would be floored at the number of people with dead or dying spouses going through a divorce. It is basically “Divorce Purgatory” and represents some of the weirdest and probably the most unsettled area of Law there is. My state Pennsylvania actually updated its statutes to deal with when one spouse dies during divorce proceedings, and is the only one in the US to do so.

Legal reconciliation or divorce modification are most often used as Legal weapons to gain a better financial settlement.

As far as knowing her intentions, when the settlement was completed, she emailed me saying:

“Unless it is related any mail or documents I receive at the old address, DO NOT contact me EVER again. Doing so will violate the “Harassment” section of the divorce settlement, and I will seek damages as set forth in the agreement”.

As far as talking to a Priest, I got “A lot of people are hurt and angry at the whole situation. I would try to stay away from here if and when her family are around”.

Oh my. Remember that when Jesus dealt with things like this, he used kindness and compassion. And he is God. If you’ll excuse me, there seems to be a log in my eye… let’s take this time to pray for this woman the OP, and everybody involved. And maybe get hold of a mirror and take a look at your own eye.

Her attempt at reconciliation was hollow. Find another Church on the other side of town.

Really? Was she like a white washed tomb?

Why are you insulting me? She put herself in that situation.

here’s the thing. I have no idea and neither do you. enough said.
Sure we do. Her ex husband told us. She made numerous bad decisions and couldn’t face the music and tried to take the cowardly way out. How simple do you need it?

wow. Nobody knows what transpires inside someone’s heart. He ex could be 100% right, but he can’t know for sure. he only has his perceptions. But since I don’t know what is going on inside these people I am not going to pass judgment. You can feel free to, if that’s what you think, but it makes it hard to portray our church as the vehicle for God’s forgiveness while we in the pews are so free and loud with our personal condemnations of each other.
