does anyone have any type of examination of conscience questions regarding dreams, being influenced by dreams in a bad way vs. being influenced by dreams otherwise.

we all have our God-given daily duties according to our states in life… things we have to do to keep a roof over our heads in service to our neighbor. yet at the same time, if i have a certain dream, sometimes it may impact my free-time decisions.

For example if i would have a nightmare about a certain person, then in my free time I might read a chapter of a catholic book to counteract that nighmare and gain more equilibrium. Otherwise if I have a nightmare about a certain person, i might avoid emailing anyone in that person’s circle of friends just to avoid the person and that person’s circle of influence for a few days.

You cannot sin while dreaming. If you have a lot of disturbing dreams is recommend talking to a counselor…and less ice cream before bed 😃

No, Jon, I do not have a lot of disturbing dreams.

In all honesty, I find the volunteer recommendation about seeing a counselor to be a little insulting and degrading. No offense intended.

My hunch is that if a person has a powerful dream, one option is to consider it but not to weigh it too heavily. That is, a dreams are a part of God’s providence.

+++++++++++++++++++++

In my estimation, mis-weighing counseling was part of the problem regarding the sex abuse crisis.

It seems that the majority of people in the united states would consider the term counseling to refer to licensed psychologists or psychiatrists.

It also seems that counseling can be an excuse for personal laziness in that the person may be too lazy to go and find the answer themselves in a psychology text.

It seems that if psychology truly has something to offer regarding dreams, a poster would be able to go to a major university library found in every major u.s. city and find the contribution in a text.

It appears that if a person is too lazy to do this, then they can easily pass on their responsibility listening to the mumble-jumble of a psychologist who supposedly has superior knowledge of human perfection.

If a person cannot go to a major university library found in every major us city to find psychology’s supposed contribution to God’s providence, dreams and human perfection, then psychology’s contribution does not exist or is very limited to a few psychologist or is not widely known.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I prefer this forum, in general, over something like a sports forum because the people are more civil and the interaction is overall more pleasant and intelligent, thoughtful.

To post a question about dreams, God’s providence and human perfection and then receive a recommendation about counseling is unpleasant to me and does not encourage, motivate or draw me to this Catholic Christian community or these interactions.

It seems like communicating down to me, writing down to me, or talking down to me.

Wow! I did not mean to upset you!

I simply tried to assure you that you cannot sin while dreaming.

I then said IF you have A LOT of disturbing dreams that I would recommend a counselor to help or less sweets before bed…maybe both.

Counseling is not a bad word.

But since you said that you do not have a lot of dreams, then my idea of counseling does not apply.

I’m not sure I’m understanding the question properly. Nonetheless, it would seem that any examination of conscience would suffice for these purposes. After all, the decision to commit a sin – whether it was instigated by a dream or not – is still very likely to entail the sort of sin that would pertain to a normal examination of conscience.

Now, I could also see someone being interested in spiritual direction to help them process certain dreams. But that sort of thing would not be covered by an examination.

Does that help at all, or are you getting at something else?
