Does anyone know of some where on the internet to get a good copy of an examaination of consciousness? I would like to read it before I go to confession but can’t find anything. Maybe I am spelling it wrong or wording it incorrectly. Any help would be appreciated.

It’s actually called an “examination of conscience”. That should help with your internet search.

Sorry–I had to laugh. An examination of “consciousness” would be checking to see if you’re awake. 😛

There’s a good examination of conscience in one of the appendices of Scott Hahn’s book Lord, Have Mercy. There’s another one in the RCIA prep booklet Outlines of the Catholic Faith. I’m sure there are more out there, but those are really good ones that I’ve seen.

Rather than give you a link, I am going to give you a warning. A priest who teaches RCIA at St. John Cantius told his RCIA class not to read those because they make one scrupulous. This may be true, so, really, be careful and don’t get bogged down in the minutiae.

Check out www.thereasonforourhope.org - Father Larry Richards has a list of sins that need to be confessed. Father Larry offers a CD on Confession that is very helpful - it is $3-4 and comes in about a week. Also, his talk can be heard on Youtube.
