Examining Conscience

I found this on Fr. Z’s blog wdtprs.com/blog/fr-zs-20-tips-for-making-a-good-confession/ and found myself wrestling with a few issues…

1. …examine our consciences regularly and thoroughly;
   This sounds like a great idea. I try to do this as a part of saying the Divine Office every day but I find myself confessing the same sins at confession, or struggling to think of things to confess! Has anyone got any tips? Is there a formulaic way of examining your conscience? I have used a little examination based on the Ten Commandments I got from a CTS prayer book for years, but it isn’t terribly imaginative!

they’ve helped me very much with many things, including what you’ve described.

but don’t worry so much about confessing the same things over and over, because the more you confess those things, the more graces you will be given to overcome them,

also, are you praying everyday for help overcoming your sins? sometimes God will let us commit the same sins over and over because we’re not seeking his help enough,

well, those confession booklets i gave you should be a big help, the blue book has a very good examination of conscience, and they should both help you with many other things, even stuff you never thought of.
