Would anyone here be willing to offer reading material on this topic? As a theist or non thiest.

I am spending quite a bit of time on this in my journey now.

I don’t recommend anything, but I am interested in this topic. I have always made a distinction between repulsion and fear, and spite or malice. For example: I hate snakes! Or, I hate that person. I feel this word is much abused, or over-used. When debating, I like to use word substitution. So when testing a premise, use the alternative word.

Hate is the consequence of fear, to truly “hate” only results in one becoming “weaker” and the soul soon dies. We need to let our souls breathe and love, there is far to much beauty in the world to focus on the bad, hate and worse to let our fears weaken our souls. I found many Atheists to actually “fear” the truth as they’ve let their hearts and souls become weak and black with hate and fear, they do not allow the true light of God within them. Once you allow the Light of the All Mighty into your soul and heart hate an fear rarely cross your mind:) Delilah

I recommend Emotions Revealed by Paul Ekman.

Ekman is a world renowned researcher in the field of psychology and he’s been studying emotions for some 40 years. Emotions Revealed is intended for the layman and Ekman will walk you through the basic emotions - how do you recognize them in others, how do you recognize them in you (it is not always easy to recognize that you are angry). What changes the emotions make in your physiology and in your way of thinking and he’ll propose some suggestions how to react to emotions (how to react to emotions displayed by others and how to react to your emotions).

His conclusions and suggestions are based on field studies (that he points out) and he illustrates emotions on some literary and some famous real-world cases.
