Sadie, Kai is doing very poorly.
For the last few days he was critical but stable.
They upgraded (downgraded???) his diagnosis from SJS to the more serious TEN. a hundred percent of his skin is affdcted, he is one hundred percent raw. But the vicious damage slowed and didnt affect his organs. But his eyes. The extent remains to be determined.
Kai has been on morphine for almost a week. The terrible news is this : with his entire body of epidermis gone, he’s susceptible to infection. Today the drs think he’s got sepsis. Hes no longer critical but stable. Hes just in critical condition.
Please please keep praying.

Please keep praying! Miracles are happening! Kai’s fever is down. His lungs are miraculously clear and other signs of sepsis averted! He briefly came out of the induced coma. His mommy saw his eyes!

Please keep praying for kai!!! The Lord is hearing our prayers! Kai is minutely improving. The tiniest bit by the tiniest bit. That’s cause for rejoicing because less than 48 hours ago, the horrible symptoms still marched forward.
Now they’ve ceased the terrible advance. That in itself is a miracle, but the tiny improvements are so thrilling.
The pictures of kai are gut wrenching. He looks like he was completely burned in a fire except his hair is intact.
The doctors say this is the worst case of sjs/ ten they ever saw, yet the most notable halt of symptoms they’ve ever seen, too. THAT’S God answering prayer!
Barring infection or complications Kai will be in the hospital for three more weeks.

this from kai’s mom, 1 hour ago. they’re going to try and extubate him.
still no word. please keep praying:
*They just wheeled Kai back. The reason it is being done in the OR is because they have to check for edema in his airway(caused by the SJS/TEN), they have to check for debris in the airway(sloughed off in the airway from him mouth and tongue and throat. They have to bronch him to make sure there is nothing blocking his main airways(again, debris from sloughed epidermal skin). They will also be chec…king for lesions and swelling from his tongue.
The tube is still sutured in, so it will have to be removed from his nare, if all looks clear, and they will give it a go(back in the OR). If he seems to be breathing OK, but just sleepy, they may insert a smaller sized breathing tube and bring him back with that and when he wakes up they can just pull the smaller tube. If the airway does not appear patent or he is struggling to breathe and maintain sats, then the tube goes back in. He is still on a significant amount of pain meds and will be given some for agitation…but the pain meds can/could decrease the respiratory drive.
Sooooo, that’s all I have while I sit in his empty room and wait.*

God hears our prayers. he is all good and deserving of all our love and trust.
the extubation was successful. kai is breathing on his own with a little help from a c-pap.
he is still on many pain meds and other meds. please keep praying for him. he needs to heal without infection.

I love it when doctors are surprised or dumbfounded, because they don’t have PRAYER…they don’t KNOW how it works miracles when the souls of strangers combine to storm Heaven with confidence in His Will…it’s incredible…God Bless you!!!
