You usually do not get this type of sermon at a weekday Mass, but I heard one tonight.

I usually go to nearby parish of St. Gerald’s for Thursday night Mass. Tonight the the pastor, Fr. Browne, gave a strong sermon on the sin of Abortion. He included in the sermon parts of the letter Pope Benedict sent to the US Bishops and tied the sin of abortion to the following part of the Gospel reading:
Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words— go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet. Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town."

Normally, this type of sermon would cause people to squirm a little in the pews, but there was none tonight (you get a different crowd) at a weekday Mass than you get a Sunday Mass.

I wish I could of stayed because that had a young woman from Crossroads speaking after the Mass. I sounded like it would be interesting.

You are very fortunate. Fr Brown now has a great Deacon to help him. Deacon Joe came from my parish… a great loss for us. He and Fr. Brown are “on the same page” so you will see many good things happening. Enjoy them both for as long as you can

Unfortunately, I do not belong to St. Gerald’s. If I did live closer, I would probably have joined this parish (they even do Gergorian Chant at the weekday Mass). Fortunately, I belong to an equally parish of St. Michael’s in Southfield.

As for Deacon Joe. I think I may of seen him. There is a man who has served at every Thursday evening Mass and I saw him doing the Liturgy of the Hours (and I think it was in Latin) with Fr. Browne just before Mass.

About 6’3", gray hair, very natural in his reverence?

He is working with Fr Brown to put the tabernacle where it belongs. And he loves being a deacon…and it shows.

He and a lady in our parish were the two who were responsible for bringing Perpetual Adoration to our parish…two years running now.

We miss him…and we already miss her too…

…don’t know a whole lot about St Michaels… except a close family friend…a Franciscan - Fr Dan Havron - has lived there over the years in his ministry as Head of Evangelization in Detroit.
