Noticed in several parishes in Kerala and abroad of the use of excessive sound systems in the name of choir which is making all attendees as mere spectators.

Especially Malankara (Anthocian) masses where lots of songs and response needed from people.

Does anybody here knows the guidelines for choir during Holy Mass.

Oh yes! This is a very big problem for us Kerala Christians. The original liturgies did not sound the way they sound today, when the “Key Board Master” was introduced, the liturgical hymns were transformed to whatever tune the Keyboardist decided to create. Its a very common problem in both the Syro Malankara and Syro Malabar Churches. I will agree though that some of the tunes created to accompany the liturgies aren’t bad but some the Keyboardist will take it to the extreme.

Originally the Syro Malabar Church and I believe the Syro Malankara Church as well used live instruments (or just voice). The Syro Malabar Church had a about three or four live instruments (Violin, Drum, Harmonium, Triangle) played to the Syriac Tune, of course now with the keyboard there’s a huge mix of different sounds that can sometimes mar the Holy Qurbana.
