Excited about the Conclave

Hello-

I am a wife and mother of Three beautiful boys (My husband plus two little ones). I am so sad about the Popes departure of the throne. I was pregnant with my oldest when he was elected Pope. Now my son is 7 and I am very excited to explain to him what is going on. I think as parents we can turn this sad news into a wonderful learning opportunity. I am going to make a big deal out of this for my kids. How awesome is it to select the next successor of Peter?

It certainly is a “teachable” moment in a Catholic youth’s life. I am looking forward to it myself. Pope Benedict was elected on my birthday which also is the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, so I always have some extra prayers to say on that day. Now I will have the privilege of continuing to pray for Pope Benedict as well as his successor.

Yes, my kids are very excited about the selection of the new Pope. They have been explaining to their non-Catholic friends about the conclave and the white smoke.

We will be watching it with great anticipation!

My oldest son watched a video (it has Italian subtitles) that he said was really “cool” and explained the behind the scenes of the conclave. I will provide the link when I get it from him.

I am also very excited. I didn’t follow the last one so this is something new to me.
 
I was pregnant with my oldest as well when Pope JPII died and Pope BXVI became Pope!

I am pregnant now when Pope Benedict will depart and we will receive a new Pope. I am very sad, I feel like we did not pray enough for our Holy Father.
 
Jpii was Pope almost my entire life, the only one I ever knew. If you look back through history though, many Popes only lasted a short time, sometimes just a year. A change in Popes was a common occurence in our faith, historically. I am very excited to watch how this unfolds with my kids. God bless B16 as he moves on to the last phase of his life <3
 
I am so happy I am not the only one who looks at the positive side of things. Gods will is done. He will protect us. I know we will be fine.

I forgot to add, I too am excited, I remember watching for the smoke and to hear ‘Habemus Papam!’, but I am still sad of how our Holy Father got to the point where he discerned he had to renounce the Papacy. Viva il Papa!
