Excited about working out of town and access to the TLM

Hey everyone…I just found out today that work is sending me to our FL office in Punta Gorda to work for the next couple of months…I am excited, because within the Diocese of Venice, there are several Latin Masses offered through the FSSP and the SSPX…I plan on checking all of them out. I was worried at first about where I was going to go to Mass when I moved down there, but after checking it out…I am super happy!!! Peace of Christ be with you all!!!

I would do a little research about the SSPX before jumping head first into it. There are some threads at this site you may want to look at as well as other sites out there. I am not sure what FSSP stands for … help me out.

I’m not sure I’d trust someone who “cautions” against the SSPX but admits to know nothing about FSSP.

Hint: They are very related.

FSSP – Fraternal Society of St. Peter. They practice the Latin Mass and are fully in communion with Rome.

I will be going to the FSSP for the majority of the Masses I attend…but I have never been to an SSPX Mass and I want to attend one…strictly out of my love for the TLM of course…People can say what they want to say about the SSPX, but personally…I love them and I think they are an asset to the Church…am I going to join them, NO…Do I support everything they have done and continue to do, NO…do I support schism, definitely not (they don’t support schism either)…but I am 100% faithtful to The Holy Father and Rome, therefore I will not join them since their status is disputed, but out of love for tradition and the TLM, I will check out 1 or 2 of their Masses while I am down there…there is nothing sinful in that.

I know the FSSP priest who celebrates the Mass in Florida, in the Venice diocese. He’s excellent.

Deo gratias. I used to live in South Carolina (in Columbia), which I loved, but only one monthly TLM at that time. Now that I’m in NYC there is at least one TLM year me every single day (not that I can always make it at that time). And on Sunday there are multiple options .

I hear you…there aren’t a lot of Catholics around these parts…I am used to Louisiana where just about everyone you come in contact with is Catholic…there are bunches and bunches of Baptist up here

Well it looks like I may have jumped the gun by not doing sufficient research, … I have since looked further into this. Please correct me if I am off base with these remarks. I do agree that the priests associated with FSSP are in full communion with The Holy See. It is my understanding that there are some issues with SSPX. The relationship that I have been able to discern is that they both celebrate the Latin Mass ( pre Vatican II ) , but both organizations are not in full communion with The Holy See. Our present Pope does not have a problem with the celebration of this mass , but some Catholics have IMHO gone too far in thinking that anything after Vatican II is not valid. I still stand by my caution about accepting everything that comes from those that follow SSXP. I love the Latin Mass, but I do not think that the Novo Ordis is in anyway wrong either. Please feel free to correct any of my misunderstandings or misspellings.

CAF has a remarkable young man who is now in his second year at the FSSP seminary in Nebraska. We also have a young man from Scotland who is considering the FSSP.

As someone who grew up in HMC before V II and who was in the middle of high school when the massive changes after V II occurred, perhaps I have a different perspective. I have nothing against the OF but I have prayed for 45 years that we would remember what we lost in 1967. We have an SSPX church here which I attended once. Upon learning that they were not in communion with the Holy Father, I never looked back.

The FSSP IS in full communion with HMC. There is nothing wrong with a properly celebrated OF but if you attended my local geographic parish, the music, noise, etc. might make you think that you were at a Southern Baptist service.

I have driven 25 miles one way since 1983 precisely because I know that the OF can be celebrated reverently; that Latin can be used; and that just because we live in the Deep South, we can be Catholics and not pseudo Southern Baptists.

I look forward to the day that we can get an FSSP parish here.

Amen to that Brotherhrolf…I hope and pray we get an FSSP parish here in South Carolina, that is within reasonable driving distance…Have you ever checked out St. Agnes? MSGR Bergreen does a great job with the Indult TLM there…they have one every Sunday morning…I used to pop in there every once in a while, when my KofC duties didn’t require my presence at The Cathedral…God Bless

You’re not off base with your remarks.

The FSSP was established in 1988 by the Pope at the same time he was excommunicating the SSPX bishops. The FSSP in fact were initially ex-SSPX priests who decided not follow Archbishop Lefebrve. There are no FSSP bishops, however.

Earlier this year the excommunication against the SSPX bishops were lifted. Currently their priests are suspended but every attempt is being made as we speak to lift everyone’s suspension and move on with a canonical solution to the whole affair.
