It has happened to me that when I am very excited about something that I get an (almost?) aroused kind of feeling, this tingly excited feeling… it almost feels like sexual arousal. 😊 It just happened now because I am very excited about a trip I am planning to go on, and somebody mentioned something that I am particularly excited about (and had hoped he would mention;)). It is mostly about an experience I am thinking about having, something I need to go through, and then I get very excited at the thought of sharing this with other people… not exactly like pride, but just… excited.
How normal is that?? Is it bad??? I hope it doesn’t mean that whatever it is I am excited about is wrong???
I know I am scrupulous but I also know that the Catholic Church can be very strict about sexual things. But what about an excited feeling about something that is just… exciting, something to dream about… And then you get that specific feeling… How do you deal with that?

Arousal happens from time to time even for women, and it can happen without us desiring it to happen. I imagine you were not hoping to get aroused or anything, and when it happened, I imagine you were not thinking indulging more to continue the arousal. The only thing that could be problematic is what lead to the arousal. If we read graphic books novels for pleasure and get aroused, then yes that would be wrong, but say you thought about this guy as wonderful adn handsome and you felt it, no problem: just pray to Christ. It only becomes an issue if you do immoral things like purposefully bring lustful images to mind to continue the arousal.

Sorry, I guess I put this down way too complicated again, and it’s too late for editing. I think my question is: What if you get a feeling of excited arousal that feels almost “sexual” , just about something you are excited/happy/dreaming about? Is that a) normal, b) bad/sinful, c) does it mean I shouldn’t be excited about it anymore (that would be sad).

It had notheing to do with a guy or anything really sexual at all!! I was just very excited that somebody mentioned a detail about my trip that I am particularly excited about, and I didn’t just feel the excitement in my chest, but also “down there”… I don’t really know why. I love being excited about something but now I feel bad because I may have felt something that I shouldn’t.

Well, I would have to say that is somewhat scrupulous. Sin is a choice we make to disobey God. You experienced a feeling that any number of us can experience without desiring that to happen. I say do not worry about this and seek a spiritual director on the issue of scrupulosity.
FINAL WORD: You did nothing wrong, and it is only the evil one wanting you to think this!!!

It happens to all of use. Becoming aroused doesn’t mean you have sinned. If you have deliberately caused the arousal, that it entirely different.

Being aroused when you don’t want to be is really common for men. If I had a nickel for every time I thought “Darn it! Not now!”.😃

If you are really spiritually strong, just ignore it. If you are not, I recommend praying a hail marry. Or keep repeating our Lord’s holy name until it goes away.

There are millions of tiny nerves in your body. All those nerves go to your brain and everywhere else…so when you think about your trip you get excited, which triggers those nerves, those nevres send like an electric shock to all the other nerves causing you to have an arousal…arousal can mean so many different things…everybody just assumse that arousel is a “sexual” word…but this word actually can be harmless…you have to understand what arousel means because it really can mean something other then “sex.” Everybody gets those feelings, yes it is arousal but that does not mean that it is a sexual arousal. So to get to the point…NO you did nothing wrong. I would have to agree with others on this, that it is satan who is putting these thoughts in your mind so you can trip up and not trust God.

I hoped that’s what it was… an arousal other than sexual. So that IS possible, huh?

I am writing from my wonderful trip… :-)))))) Sitting at an internet cafe in Zadar right now.

Possible, normal, and probably happens way more than you even realize. As a man, I can speak for my gender and say we have a more visible sign of when this happens to us, but I won’t go into details. Enjoy your trip.
