Is there any church teaching on existence before birth? I was wondering that since God was aware of our being since the very start, if we would have existed in the mind of God, before being physically born as the start of life. What are your thoughts?

Daniel:

Welcome to CAF!

An infinite Being is not subject to a before or an after. Since He is not a “mobile being,” He is not measured by time. Sequentially, I think the Catholic Church views that God knows us upon our individual creations, or about 9 months before our births (to humans).

God bless,

Love your question as I have had problems with accepting abortion as a woman’s right over the child’s life. If you watch tv watch TLC’s 'Long Island Medium" as she has tallked to couples that have lost there unborn child.

The recently deceased child – the soul exist. Life exist beyond earth, and God exist it in Heaven. I love this show – it confirms there is a God and souls do move to Him and from Him.

I no longer judge a woman that has had an abortion as I know the child is safe with God. But the show confirms my belief souls do begin at conception.

I’ve not heard that before.

I have read this before about God though,

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you"

Jer 1:5

If that does not answer it nothing well for you.

This has been a question for me from way back in my university days.
Us protestants were discussing life after death. We concluded that after we die and have been judged we are no longer living in time. If we are in heaven we will be with God. To be with God, to our way of thinking, would mean to be living with him outside of time.
If we are living outside of time then there ceases to be a “before” when we did not exist.
My brain is getting a little numb now.
Good night.

Not trying to be harsh, but there are a couple issues with your response that need to be addressed. First, mediums are all cons and may be involved with demons. You should read up on mediums in the bible.

Secondly, you shouldn’t judge others, but abortions are certainly not ok. I may be misunderstanding you, but from your post it seems that you are saying you are ok with killing the innocent because they will end up with God. I hope that is not what you meant.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-existence#Christianity

This was actually condemned as heresy in A.D. 553 in the Second council of Constantinople. God knowing us, in His foreknowledge and being transcendent of time, is not the same as a person existing or being actualized. If existing in the mind of God is the same as existing per se, then our bodies would have pre-existed themselves, since God surely foreknew m body. You see the flaw? This is also a heresy taught by Mormons.

If I were you, I wouldn’t base my religious views on a television show. Therese Caputo is an entertainer first and foremost and a “medium” second. A lot of the cold readings she does could be summed up as grifting. If you ask a woman in her late 40’s or early 50’s if she’s lost a mother figure then the odds are, there’s an aunt, mother or grandmother that she can associate them to. The next step is to say something like, " I feel a heaviness in my chest. Did she pass from something related to her chest?" The answer is almost always yes because breast cancer and heart disease are two of the leading causes of death for women. If Mrs. Caputo is able to strike gold with this first read then she will have not only a client but also information that she can use on that person when they come to her for a private reading.

You would be better off getting spiritual guidance from 6 year old Honey Boo Boo. She’d provide a laugh with her nonsense and she probably wouldn’t try and charge you for it.
