Exodus 2:22; Francis de Sales

On page 109 of Francis de Sales’ book The Catholic Controversy (TAN Books), he states: “In Exodus, at Geneva and elsewhere among these reformers, they have cut out the twenty-second verse of the second chapter, which is of such weight that neither the Seventy nor the other translators would ever have written it if it had not been in the original.” The verse in question seems to me to be unremarkable; or the verse numbering is mixed up and this refers to another passage. Does anybody know what this is all about?:confused:
 
Exodus 2:22 is about the serious sin of neglecting orphans and widows.
Exodus 22:2 is about the punishment for people who rob your house. I think it is this verse that has multiple meanings to reflect on, but I won’t second guess St. Francis de Sales… You have provided no context or quotes of this great book, and I hope we can hear from people who have the book, and can give a decent reply.
 
I looked up that passage in de Sales’ book and I couldnt figure out what he is saying either. Then I checked a few versions and finally the the Douay Rheims Bible and noticed this:21 And Moses swore that he would dwell with him. And he took Sephora his daughter to wife: 22 And she bore him a son, whom he called Gersam, saying: I have been a stranger in a foreign country. And she bore another, whom he called Eliezer, saying: For the God of my father, my helper hath delivered me out of the hand of Pharao. 23 Now after a long time the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel groaning, cried out because of the works: and their cry went up unto God from the works.
The part in red appears to be a disputed passage as to whether this ever was a verse or an addition. De Sales appear to be saying the Pretend Reformers dont have the right to decide if a verse is or is not Scripture.
Some other translations: 21Moses agreed to live with him, and the man gave him his daughter Zipporah in marriage. 22 6 She bore him a son, whom he named Gershom; for he said, “I am a stranger in a foreign land.” 23A long time passed, during which the king of Egypt died. Still the Israelites groaned and cried out because of their slavery. As their cry for release went up to God,-NAB

21 Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage. 22 Zipporah gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, **(“http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=ex 2&version=31#fen-NIV-1577b”)] saying, “I have become an alien in a foreign land.” 23 During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God.

22And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.
23And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. -KJV

The verse is not in most translations I checked.
